Life Gives Us a Reason Every Season — Pause, Listen, and Reset

It was a Sunday morning. The temperature was low, and the air carried a gentle winter breeze. The branches of the neem tree swayed softly, rustling in the silence, as sunlight slipped into the living room. Sia and Taran squeezed themselves into that narrow beam of light, trying to soak in its warmth.
Mom, like on any other morning, was busy in the kitchen. Sia and Taran couldn’t resist the aroma of mildly roasted sesame seeds mixed with the sweet fragrance of boiling jaggery. It spread through every corner of the house. Curious and excited, they peeped into the kitchen to find a large plate piled high with goond ke ladoo and til ke ladoo.
This is a typical winter scene in many Indian homes, isn’t it?
“Winter is coming,” Taran said in an exaggerated accent, flashing a sheepish smile.
Sia ignored him. She grinned instead, throwing an innocent look at her mother as they waited eagerly for the first bite. Soon enough, they were rewarded with a handful of ladoos.
Sia handed a til ladoo to Taran and teased, “Til-gul ghe, goad goad bol” — which meant, with this til ladoo, I expect you to speak sweetly to me.
Her brother snatched the ladoo without replying.
She was furious — but only for a moment. Then she smiled. “Yeh nahi sudharega,” she thought.

Sia moved to the window and sat quietly, watching the morning unfold. In that stillness, a thought crossed her mind.
We have so many festivals — yet each one is unique in its colours, celebrations, and food. What stands out most is how thoughtfully they are designed. Every festival aligns beautifully with the season and the climate. Just think of it — sesame seeds, jaggery, and gond used during Sankranti are perfect for winter, keeping the body warm and nourished. In summer, aam panna cools and refreshes, offering comfort and health during the scorching months of April and May. And the list continues, filled with many such mouth-watering dishes, each rooted in wisdom.
Thoughtful, isn’t it — how wisdom often hides in everyday traditions?
Our ancestors truly were geniuses. Despite the diversity of cultures, regions, rituals, and cuisines, there is one common thread that binds every festival together — yes , the teaching.
Every festival gives us a pause.
A chance to slow down, let go of negativity, and begin again — a gentle reset.
Sankranti reminds us to speak sweetly and see the kindness in one another. Pongal, in particular, is a celebration of gratitude — towards the sun, the earth, the cattle, and the farmers who sustain life. As the rice boils over, it symbolises abundance, hope, and the joy of sharing. It gently reminds us to be thankful, grounded, and generous in both words and actions.
Holi teaches us to burn the evil within. As the fire consumes what no longer serves us, it invites us to release anger, resentment, and past hurt — making space for joy and forgiveness.
Gudi Padwa marks new beginnings. We begin the year by tasting neem leaves — bitter, yet cleansing — accepting that life will have its share of bitterness, while trusting that it prepares us for growth and renewal.
Dussehra celebrates the victory of good over evil, reminding us that truth and integrity may be tested, but they always prevail.
Diwali brings the promise of prosperity — not just in wealth, but in hope, light, and inner abundance.

Life, like the calendar, keeps moving forward. Some chapters are heavy. Some joyful. Some confusing.
But just as every festival brings light after darkness, every difficult chapter carries the promise of a new beginning.
Seasons change. Lessons remain. So remember — a bad chapter is not the end of your story. Turn the page, and continue writing your story. Because , the World is ready to listen !
