After Wagner broke apart, Moscow’s shiny new “Africa Corps” moved into Libya like it was opening a franchise. They didn’t need to conquer anything — they just showed up with oil tankers, rubles, and plausible deniability.

They turned Haftar’s territory into a geopolitical pawn shop: oil in, influence out. Fuel gets sold through shell companies that somehow “forget” where it came from. Rubles slide into circulation, and Europe pretends it doesn’t notice because, well, heating bills.

Then there’s the UN’s big 2025 innovation: punish people with compliance. If Libya doesn’t meet its audit benchmarks, the UN doesn’t invade — it just quietly cuts off your legitimacy drip. No need for coups or coups d’état — just delete your access credentials.
