X-Men Legends 2’s Commercial Brought The Apocalypse — The Uncanny Fox

With Insomniac getting ready to show us more of *Marvel’s Wolverine later today, I figured I’d prep myself by writing about one of Logan’s other video game outings. Or rather, something he co-starred in with the rest of the X-Men. Now, I didn’t get to play this myself back in the day, but the commercial would always come on during Smackdown* and it looked pretty cool.

Raven Software is a name that crops up quite a bit when it comes to fondly remembered licensed games from the 2000s. Before sadly being shuffled into yet another Call of Duty mill around 2011-ish, the studio made a name for itself on such gems as Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, and the X-Men Origins: Wolverine tie-in game. But before branching out into the larger Marvel universe or focusing its spotlight on Logan alone, Raven cut its teeth in the world of mutants with its two X-Men Legends titles.

The Apocalypse Is Nigh In X-Men Legends 2

Which brings us to 2005’s X-Men Legends 2: Rise of Apocalypse, which naturally pits the X-Men and Brotherhood of Mutants against the ever-threatening En Sabah Nur. This epic adventure was heralded by a spot-on narration from Sir Patrick Stuart (who reprises his role as Professor Charles Xavier in both X-Men Legends games) and impressive pre-rendered footage of the X-Men and Brotherhood battling against Apocalypse. Blur Studio and the people who do the Final Fantasy stuff really are the rulers of their field.

Now again, I never got to play X-Men Legends 2: Rise of Apocalypse myself, though I do have the cutscenes on DVD as a bonus feature for one of Lionsgate’s animated Marvel movies. I’m sure this was a better Apocalypse story than *X-Men Apocalypse*. Whelp, see y’all at the PlayStation Showcase!
