SCCM Upgrade Process

Steps to be carried out before and post SCCM migration.

  1. ADK update

Windows 10 ADK 1709 not compatible with CB 1702 or earlier versions. Even though it is recommended to upgrade, still the Image build works with earlier ADK versions. Note down the options enabled in earlier ADK version if already installed, by using change option in programs and feature.

  1. Disable Site Maintenance from Administrator -> sites, select site and site maintenance from ribbon and disable all the tasks. Its is mandatory, because while upgrade is in progress if some SM task interpret with the upgrade might upgrade fail.

  2. Make sure there is no pending reboot. 4.Check and rectify if any errors on Site and component status.

5.Create pre-deployment collection before stating the upgrade .

  1. Create a site backup and make sure it is succeed.

  2. Download 1706

  • On SCCM console, navigate to Administrator-> Updates and Servicing-> Right Clicked Configuration Manger 1706 and select Download. Check Download status on Monitoring -> Site Servicing Status-> Configuration Manger 1706 ->Show Status

8.Run Prerequisite Check for Update Pack 1706

  • Navigate to Administrator-> Updates and Servicing-> Right Click Configuration Manger 1706 and selected Run Prerequisite Check. Check Prerequisite check status on Monitoring -> Site Servicing Status-> Configuration Manger 1706 ->Show Status
  1. Install Update Pack 1706

Navigate to Administrator-> Updates and Servicing-> Right Clicke Configuration Manger 1706 and selected Install Update Pack

  • On the General tab, Click Next
  • On the Features tab, uncheck PXC Create and click Next
  • On the Client Update Options, select Validate in per-production collection and Click Browse and select the Collection created for Pre-Production client update.
  • On the License Terms tab, accept the license terms and click Next
  • On the Summary tab, click Next and close the wizard on the Completion tab.
  • To check the Installation status, Navigated to Monitoring -> Updates and Servicing Status, right-clicked Configuration Manager 1706 and selected Show Status.
  • In Administration-> Updates and Servicing node, the State column will shows as Installed

10.Install Latest Console Version

  • Post the installation popup appears on SCCM console launch
  • Click OK, to update console.
  • Once completed, the console will open with the latest version
  1. To upgrade secondary sites
  • Navigate to Administrator-> Site Configuration-> Sites, select secondary site and click upgrade from to menu.
  • Once upgrade completes the state for the secondary site will shows as Site Active.
  1. Verification
  • we can use below logs files to check the install success status

Configuration Manger installation location log files

  • cmupdate
  • hman
  • sitecomp
  • smsexec.log

C drive of primary site

  • ConfigMgrSetup.log
  • ConfigMgrPrereq.log
