100% Chance of Rain, Ruin, Repeat. The Monsoon in Pakistan

You hear it first — soft drops on the tin roof, a party for the rich, but a dripping roof for the poor. In most places, rain brings relief.

In Pakistan, it brings a roof that starts to bleed, a floor that turns to mud, and a soul that slowly drowns in silence. It’s not only water. It’s the sound of everything breaking — again.

And all the poor man can do is pray… “Bas is dafa chhat gir na jaye.”

When the Sky Breaks Open, So Do We…

OFFICIAL NOW: NDMA has issued another flood alert. From July 6 to July 12, heavy monsoon rains will slam Pakistan from all sides — Punjab, KP, Balochistan, Sindh, Gilgit Baltistan, Azad Kashmir.

A “strong westerly wave” is colliding with monsoon currents, and the only thing more intense than the weather is the public’s quiet rage.

Every year we hear the same lines: “Tension na lein.” “Ham ne intazam kar liya hai.” “Relief camps tayaar hain.” “Drains saaf kar diye gaye hain.”

Lekin bhai, kaunsi drains? The ones that overflow at the first sign of drizzle? Or the ones that magically appear only on NDMA reports?

It’s become a joke now. A dark, tragic, nationwide meme.

National Diagnosis.

66 people have already died since June 26. 127 injured. Most of them were just living. Crossing a road. Sleeping in their home. Charging a phone when a live (current) wire kissed the wet floor.

They’re not victims of the rain. They’re victims of negligence, of structural rot, of a political elite that hasn’t walked a flooded alley in decades.

And while cities drown, officials stay dry — literally and metaphorically.

“Itna Paani Hota Hai, Car Nahi, Boat Chahiye Apko”

But it is not a joke any more. You know that you have seen it.

  • Lahore turns into Venice — minus the charm.
  • Karachi becomes a waterpark where people scream, not laugh.
  • Northern areas cut off because one landslide decided to remind everyone how fragile our “development” is.

One random uncle in Rawalpindi put it best: “Beta, barish nahi ayi… azaab aya hai.” And it’s hard to argue.

The roads break. The lights go out. The internet dies. The news reports scroll across screens like a horror film. But the worst part?

It all feels… normal…

That’s the real tragedy.

NDMA Shouting. Leaders Sleeping.

Let’s give credit where it’s due — the NDMA does warn us. They release their bulletins. They flash their alerts. They say:

  • “Avoid flood-prone areas.”
  • “Secure weak structures.”
  • “Postpone trips to the north.”
  • “Emergency teams are on standby.”

But no one’s listening. Because trust in leadership is already underwater.

And the average Pakistani is tired. Tired of warnings without action. Tired of sandbags that don’t arrive. Tired of telling their kids, “Don’t step in the water, it might be electric.”

This is no longer about poor drainage or bad planning. It’s about a country being tested every single year, and failing… every single time.

What we need isn’t just another committee. We need a rebirth.

Rain keeps falling. Even our hope can’t survive.

Final Words (Aakhari Baat)

Imagine a Pakistan where rain isn’t a warning to run… but a reason to smile.

Where children run through puddles without fear of falling into open manholes. Where mothers don’t look up at leaking ceilings with heartbreak in their eyes. Where our rivers don’t swallow the homes of the poor while the powerful post weather updates from air-conditioned offices.

Where every storm doesn’t remind us of everything we’ve failed to fix.

It’s not a dream. It’s a possibility — if we stop romanticizing resilience and start demanding responsibility. If we stop saying “Sb theek ho Jaye Ga” as an excuse and start acting like we actually care to change what keeps drowning us.

Pakistan isn’t drowning because of rain… It’s drowning because we keep letting it.

So next time the sky weeps… don’t just watch.

Listen.

That’s not water. It’s centuries of broken promises hitting tin roofs. It’s the cry of a nation aching to be rebuilt. It’s the sound of the poor man’s prayer echoing through every drop:

“Is dafa, please… rehmat ho, saza na ho.”

Because the flood will come again. It always does. The only thing that can change is whether we finally decide — to rise with it.

Yours truly, someone who’s tired of watching people drown in silence.
