The market is a professional liar. It spends most of its life telling everyone that risk is contained, liquidity is abundant, and the future has been thoroughly discounted. Then one day it wakes up, looks around, and discovers that none of those sentences were ever permanent. That is usually when the chart stops looking like a trend and starts looking like a warning.

The first lie is always comfort. Traders want it, institutions sell it, and central bankers encourage it by speaking in a language so polished it could lubricate a machine. But comfort is not stability. It is just the moment before the system has to admit that it was built on assumptions, not guarantees. The uglier the foundation, the more expensive the wallpaper.

It is amazing how quickly conviction becomes punctuation.

The real punchline is that nobody gets paid to be early about the truth. They get paid to sound reasonable while the machine is still printing money. By the time the story changes, the smart money has already moved, the dumb money is still clapping, and the rest of the room is trying to figure out whether the bleeding counts as a buying opportunity.

That is the world we live in now: an economy of reassurances, a market of delayed consequences, and a crowd that keeps mistaking speed for direction. The numbers still move. The headlines still glow. But under the surface, the old ritual continues — deny, repackage, extend, repeat — until the bill finally stops being polite.

And when that happens, the market does what it always does best. It panics with a very expensive face.
