Mailchimp cut your free plan and raised prices. You have a better option
See why small businesses are moving to Systeme.io, a free all-in-one tool with unlimited email sends.

Mailchimp raised prices again on April 13, 2026, an 11 to 13% jump for legacy accounts, per Benchmark Email’s 2026 pricing report.
Three months earlier, in January, Mailchimp cut its free plan from 500 contacts and 1,000 sends down to 250 contacts and 500 sends.
If your list is growing, that free tier now runs out almost immediately.
At 5,000 contacts, Mailchimp Standard costs about $100 per month, according to a onetoolstack.com comparison.
Systeme.io’s Startup plan covers the same range for just $17 per month. That is roughly $996 a year for fewer tools.

The cost you never agreed to pay
Mailchimp counts your unsubscribed and duplicate contacts toward your plan limit.
That is confirmed in Mailchimp’s own pricing documentation, cited by Benchmark Email.
Someone who opted out three years ago and can never receive another email still takes up a paid slot. The same person in two audiences counts twice.
So your bill climbs for contacts you cannot even use.
Sound familiar?
One small business owner on r/MailChimp wrote that they were paying “over $400 a month” and felt “the value is wavering.”
If you have ever logged in, seen the next price tier, and thought “I just need to send emails and get on with my day,” this is your moment.
What you have probably already tried
Before you look at a new platform, look at the fixes you have likely attempted. Each one treats a symptom and leaves the root cause in place.
- You cleaned your list. Archiving unengaged contacts drops your count for a while. Then your list grows again, and you cross the next pricing threshold. The relief is temporary because the pricing model still punishes growth.
- You opened a tab for a cheaper email tool. MailerLite and Brevo are solid and cost less than Mailchimp. But they solve only the email piece. If you also run funnels, sell a course, or want an affiliate program, you still pay for separate tools on top.
- You just ate the cost. The switch felt like too much work, so you kept paying. Every month that decision costs you money, and the increases keep coming.
The real problem is not which email tool you use. It is paying for three or four tools that should be one, on a pricing model that charges you more the more you grow.
One platform instead of four
Systeme.io is an all-in-one platform for small businesses and creators. Its homepage states it powers more than 500,000 entrepreneurs.
It folds email marketing, sales funnels, a website and blog builder, online courses, evergreen webinars, a CRM pipeline, and a full affiliate program into a single login.
Here is how the features map to what you actually get.
- The free plan gives you 2,000 contacts with unlimited email sends and 0% transaction fees, per Systeme.io’s comparison page.
- Mailchimp’s free plan caps sends at 10,000 per month and charges a 2% fee on sales. You send as much as you need without watching a meter. 😂
- Sales funnels, online courses, and an affiliate program come built in.
- Mailchimp offers none of these, and it prohibits affiliate marketing entirely. If you were paying for separate funnel or course tools, Systeme.io replaces that spend.
- Support reaches every user, free or paid, with an average response under two hours per Systeme.io.
- Mailchimp reserves email support for paid accounts and, on the free tier, only for the first 30 days.
One login replaces four separate tools.
- When you grow past the free tier, the Startup plan is $17 per month and the Unlimited plan is $97 per month with unlimited contacts and unlimited sends, per LanderLab’s 2026 review and Systeme.io.
- At 100,000 contacts, Mailchimp Standard tops $800 per month. The gap is not small.

The proof, and the honest limits
Systeme.io holds a 4.8-star rating across 748 verified reviews on G2, and a 5-star rating from more than 8,100 reviewers on Trustpilot.
Those are large, verifiable review counts, not a handful of testimonials.
Same contacts, far more included
Now the honest part, because a recommendation you cannot trust is worthless.
Systeme.io is not the strongest tool in every category.
A 2026 LanderLab review flagged slower page load speeds, limited design flexibility, basic analytics, and only simple A/B testing.
Mailchimp still wins on email template design, deep campaign analytics, and its mature Customer Journeys automation builder.
If polished email design and detailed reporting are your top priority, Mailchimp remains a strong specialist tool.
For most small businesses that want low cost, unlimited sends, and several tools in one place, Systeme.io does more for less.
Your likely objections, answered
“Switching will eat my whole weekend.” Most people finish the move in an afternoon. You export a CSV, clean it, import it, rebuild your automations, and send a test. Five steps, spelled out below.
“A free tool must be worse.” Free here means the pricing model, not the quality. You get 2,000 contacts, unlimited sends, and 0% fees at no cost, backed by a 4.8 G2 rating. The trade-offs are in design polish and analytics depth, not in whether the core tools work.
“I will just hit another paywall as I grow.” The Unlimited plan holds unlimited contacts and unlimited sends at a flat $97 per month. Your bill stops climbing with your list, which is the opposite of the Mailchimp model.

How to switch in five steps
Most people finish the switch in an afternoon
- Export your Mailchimp list. Go to Audience, then All Contacts, then Export Audience. You get a CSV.
- Clean it first. Open the file and remove unsubscribed contacts before you import anything. You start lean.
- Import into Systeme.io. Create a free account, go to Contacts, and upload the CSV, mapping your fields and tags.
- Rebuild your automations. Recreate your email sequences in the workflow builder. For simple sequences, this takes under an hour.
- Send a test. Run one test campaign, confirm everything looks right, then cancel your Mailchimp paid plan.
That is the whole process. You own your contacts, so exporting them is always your right.
The April increase already landed. Every month you wait is another bill you did not have to pay. Start free, move your list this week, and put your costs back under your control.
