Apple Cider Vinegar - The Belle Gibson Saga

Lets Talk About Belle Gibson and Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar, a new Netflix series released on February 6, 2025, delves into the life of Belle Gibson, an Australian wellness influencer who falsely claimed to have cured her terminal brain cancer through alternative medicine. The series, inspired by true events, explores the rise and fall of Gibson’s wellness empire, highlighting the dangers of misinformation in the health and wellness industry.

Belle Gibson gained significant attention in the early 2010s by promoting her app, “The Whole Pantry,” which offered health and wellness advice. She claimed to have cured her terminal brain cancer through diet and holistic treatments, attracting a large following and partnerships with major companies, including Apple. However, investigations revealed that Gibson had fabricated her entire cancer diagnosis and misappropriated funds intended for charity. In 2015, she was fined $410,000 for misleading claims but has largely stayed out of the public eye since then.

Apple Cider Vinegar follows Belle Gibson’s journey from a wellness enthusiast to a fraudulent influencer. Kaitlyn Dever portrays Gibson, delivering a compelling performance that captures the complexity of her character. The series also introduces Milla Blake (This character is based on Jess Ainscough), a genuine cancer patient who advocates for alternative therapies, and Lucy Guthrie (Tilda Cobham-Hervey), a breast cancer patient inspired by Gibson’s story. The narrative intertwines their lives, exploring themes of deception, trust, and the impact of misinformation.

Critics have praised “Apple Cider Vinegar” for its engaging storytelling and strong performances. The series holds an 82% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with an average rating of 7.5/10. The consensus reads, “Coating its tart tale in a sugary veneer, Apple Cider Vinegar’s indictment of snake oil influencers finds a memorable avatar in Kaitlyn Dever’s crisp performance.”

Even though she had been confronted and called out by so many people Belle kept up the façade. She was given so many opportunities to come clean and even after she lost everything and found herself on the wrong side of the law she still couldn’t be honest.

The video clip below shows an interview she gave to 60 Minutes Australia. Take a look and tell me what you think. I don’t want to give too much away. You won’t be disappointed.
