These are the continuing stories of my husband's boss, the wealthiest person we knew. MR. “J” lived in a very expensive condo on Long Island. These were not only luxury apartments but also included pools, clubhouses, sometimes golf, and five-star restaurants. Some lived there as their full-time residence, and some had places around the globe.

He preferred to entertain at the Country Club, but this was a special occasion. He wanted us to see a special painting he had purchased,

It was a signed Norman Rockwell. I studied art and artists in school, and I have even been to the Norman Rockwell museum in Massachusetts. This was up close and personal.

I want to remind the reader that at his daughter's wedding, he told me I must see the opulent bathroom. Now we were given new instructions, make sure to notice the expensive frame.

He had paid thousands for this picture and told me it was not a typical Rockwell. The artist was known for his everyday pictures of Americana. He was primarily an illustrator. Mr, “J” told me the subject was a clown. I did not know the artist painted clowns.

We went to his house, and there hanging on a wall was the clown. That was not what drew my attention. The frame was enormous, dwarfing the painting inside. The frame was gold. Was it really gold or gold leaf? I was afraid to ask. We respectfully viewed the picture, I in the frame, and made appreciative sounds.

My mother’s warning about shutting my often brazen mouth came back to me. I said it was remarkable, and the frame was. The picture a minor work by a talented artist.

This is what the very wealthy buy. I think I would have preferred a boat. Judy
