If you have done fifteen interviews in eight months and every one ended in a rejection, the most useful thing I can tell you is that the data agrees with the version of events where you are competent and the market is broken. The number of rounds, the moving goalposts, the rejection for “needing more experience” after you were nearly promoted, none of that is a reading of your skill. It is the shape a market takes when far more qualified people are applying than there are seats, and companies respond by inventing ever more elaborate filters.
I want to argue this carefully, because the opposite belief is doing real damage to people right now. The opposite belief is that the process is a fair test and a string of losses means you failed the test.
Start with the clearest public account of what the gauntlet actually feels like. That is not a coherent evaluation of a person. That is a company keeping a candidate warm and then declining for a reason that did not change between the two emails. In a market that screens for speed-of-output over correctness, the carefulness reads as slowness, and the slowness reads as a no.
It is worth being precise about why “they don’t care about security” is the most damning line in his account rather than a throwaway gripe. A hiring filter is a statement of what the company values, written in the language of what it screens for. You are not asking a friend to vouch for your genius. The difference is not in the outcomes. The interviews go the same either way for a while. The difference is in who is still standing and still applying in month nine, and that difference decides who gets the eventual yes.
There is decent science under that claim.
