Father’s Day Special

A Letter to Father by a Daughter

Respected Papa,

Another Father’s Day has arrived, and as always, my thoughts find their way back to you.

There are so many things I wish I could tell you.

When I was young, I saw you only as my father. Now, I see you as a man who carried burdens I never realized. You quietly gave up your own comfort so your children could dream bigger dreams.

I often think about your shoes.

I remember your shoes were worn out, and you needed a new pair. But when I asked for something, you put my wish before your own need. Back then, I was too young to understand. I only noticed what I got, not what you gave up.

Now, that memory makes me both sad and grateful.

Life has brought me to where you once stood. Sometimes, when my own children wanted something, I put my needs aside without thinking. In those moments, I finally understood you. Parents do not count their sacrifices. They just make them.

And then there are the chocolates.

I still remember you bringing them home because you knew how much I loved them. Sometimes they melted in the summer heat and lost their shape on the way. But to me, they were perfect because they came from you.

Even today, whenever I eat chocolate, I think of you.

A simple piece of chocolate can take me back in time. For a moment, I am not an educator, author, mother, or professional. I am just your little girl again, waiting for her father to come home.

Papa, if you could see my life now, I think you would notice your influence everywhere.

The values you taught me became the base for my whole life.

You believed education could change lives. You believed knowledge was something no one could take away. Those lessons stayed with me.

They traveled with me from India to the United States.

They stayed with me through every challenge, every opportunity, every success, and every setback.

Today, I work to support children, help educators, and create learning spaces where every child can succeed. My work in accessible education comes from a simple belief: every learner deserves dignity, opportunity, and a chance to thrive.

When people compliment my work, they see the educator.

I see my father.

I see a man who taught me that every child deserves a chance, even before I knew what inclusion meant. I see a man who believed in perseverance long before I learned about educational theories.

As I get older, I realize the most important lessons I learned did not come from books.

I learned them by watching you.

I learned resilience by seeing you keep going, even when things were hard.

I learned generosity by watching you give, even when you had little.

I learned humility by seeing you work without asking for praise.

I learned love by seeing you put our family’s needs before your own.

There is one thing I wish I had said more often while you were here.

Thank you for every dream you postponed so ours could flourish.

Thank you for every sacrifice that went unnoticed.

Thank you for every difficult day you carried without complaint.

Thank you for believing in a future you might never see, but still worked hard to build.

I often wonder what you would think if you could see the places life has taken me.

The little girl who once waited for melted chocolates now writes books, speaks at conferences, and works with teachers around the world.

But even after all the places I have been and all I have achieved, part of me is still trying to make you proud.

Maybe daughters never stop trying to do that.

On this Father's Day, I cannot sit beside you, hold your hand, or hear your voice.

But I carry your lessons.

I carry your sacrifices.

I carry your dreams.

And I carry your love.

You are no longer here, Papa, but you live on in every life I touch, every student I support, every teacher I help, and every act of kindness I choose.

Your journey did not end with you.

It continues through me.

I love you and miss you very much. I wish you were alive.
