What is Eos Hardfork? What are their features?

Q — What is Hardfork?

A- A hardfork ( blockchain technology) is a radical change to networks protocol that makes previously invalid blocks and transactions valid, or vice versa.

A hardfork requires all nodes or users to upgrade to the latest version of the protocol softwares.

In a Hardfork , holders of tokens in the original blockchain will be granted tokens in the new fork as well, but miners and others who mine must choose in which blockchain they want to continue verifying. Also a Hardfork can occur in any Blockchain.

What is a Hardfork Event?

A hardfork is an event where a blockchain splits into two separate blockchains running parallel with each others , each with a different parameters from a common previous chain. The hard forking breaks the forward compatibility of crypto assets.

What is EOS Hardfork?

Eos Hardfork is same as other hardforks in which a blockchain splits into twoseparate blockchains running parallel with each others , each with a different parameters from a common previous Chain.

Eos developers are going to launch Mandel 3.0 RC 1 (which will be deprived from EOS 2.0 ) and there will be few valuable enhancements from EOSIO 2.1 and EOSIO 2.2.

Most number of EOS producers have largely remained on EOSIO 2.0 while some of them EOS infrastructures nodes and other downstreams have upgraded EOSIO 2.1 ,Upgrading them all to mandel 3.0 will cause a lot of work so there will be an another release of Mandel 2.3 derived from EOSIO 2.1 version.

Mandel 3.0 will also introduce two new hard forks:

1) Contract Pays

2) Enhanced Configurable Blockchain params.

What are the features of upcoming hardfork?

1) contract pays.

One of the most challenging things developers face is making their applications easy to use. Requiring users to lease cpu, net, and ram resources from the network in order to interact with applications is a major usablitiy hurdle. The smart contract would pay for all the resources required by the users of the contract.

Eos requires every transaction to be signed by atleast one key and every permission level to have at least a threshold of 1 which limits the resources needed by their users. With contract pays it will be possible to implement transactions that are structured like bitcoin transactions. It will also make it possible to implement privacy tokens without having your privacy compromised by the system.

2) Enhanced Configurable Blockchain params.

The hardfork feature makes it easier to add/remove/configure future objective features.

This allows contracts to make conditional actions based upon the presence of a feature or the valuce of a configured parameter. Instead of having to add a new intrinsic for every new feature or configurable parameter , There is a single intrinsic that contracts can call. Also this feature was largely implemented in EOSIO 2.1.

3) Configurable WASM limits.

This hard fork feature allows the block producers to increase the size of the smart contracts that can be deployed which allow larger, more powerful contracts to be deployed.

EOSIO has to limit various WASM parameters such as memory, number of functions. Once a smart contract hits one of these limits the developers have to divide their code across multiple diff. contracts for security reasons.

These limits have been made configurable which give the network more power to expand in the future making the network more flexible and easy to use.

ROADMAP

This roadmap is the shortest path to Eos independence and is the first step on.

A multi year plan to revitalize EOS.
