Lisbon’s attractions are incredibly rich! Honestly, while organizing my travel maps before writing this article, I was amazed by just how rich there are! Museums, monuments, squares, and many more spots make Lisbon a treasure trove of history and beauty.

The city’s historical traces and charming alleyways are truly worth savoring. The streets are decorated with various patterned tiles on both the ground and walls. Though some parts of the city center may be a bit dirty, these tiles remain one of Lisbon’s unique features. 🇵🇹Bairro Alto

Bairro Alto is considered the heart of Lisbon, filled with restaurants, cafés, and bars. It’s the perfect place for a city walk during the day or to experience Lisbon’s nightlife. I stayed in Bairro Alto during my trip to Lisbon. Although it’s the city center, the pace of life remains slow, without the rush of a big metropolis.

If you’re looking for delicious food, head to Time Out Market! They have everything — main dishes, snacks, and pastries. You can grab lunch, afternoon tea, or dinner here. Besides the food stalls, there are also many restaurants around the market. I highly recommend trying the seafood here — it’s fresh and comes in generous portions! And of course, finishing with an pastry as dessert makes the meal complete!

🇵🇹Café A Brasileira

Established in 1905, this century-old café in Lisbon was a favorite spot for poets and writers to seek inspiration. At the entrance, you’ll find a bronze statue of Fernando Pessoa, one of Portugal’s most famous poets. The interior décor is classic and elegant, and besides coffee, they also serve pastries.

Japanese ramen in Europe? Lisbon is the only city in Europe where you can find Afuri! Honestly, I had never heard of this place until my travel companion mentioned how famous it is — so I had to give it a try! Surprisingly, when we arrived, there was almost no one there, and we got seated immediately.

🇵🇹Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara

A great place for a leisurely walk in Lisbon — though be prepared to climb some hills! This viewpoint offers a panoramic view of the city and its seaside landscape. There’s also a funicular stop nearby.

🇵🇹Praça dos Restauradores

Located in front of Rossio, one of Lisbon’s main train stations, this square commemorates Portugal’s independence from Spanish rule in 1640. The obelisk in the center, built in 1886, symbolizes independence and victory.

🇵🇹Bairro Alto’s Nightlife

Wondering where to go in Lisbon at night? I had seen tons of exciting Lisbon nightlife clips on Reels, but when I visited, it wasn’t quite as lively as I expected. Still, I’ve gathered some of the city’s top nightlife spots for you to check out if you get the chance!

• Bairro Alto Bars & Clubs: Around Igreja de São Roque (Church of São Roque), you’ll find numerous bars and clubs with different themes and atmospheres. Some bars also host special events occasionally. The main nightlife streets are R. de São Pedro de Alcântara and R. da Rosa.
• Pink Street: A lively area packed with restaurants and bars, Pink Street is one of Lisbon’s most famous nightlife districts. What makes it special? The entire street is painted pink, with colorful umbrellas hanging overhead, giving it a fun and vibrant feel. It’s also a popular photo spot!

• Praça Luís de Camões (Luís de Camões Square): A bustling commercial area filled with restaurants and pastry shops serving authentic Portuguese flavors. One of the liveliest spots in Lisbon!

🇵🇹Elevador de Santa Justa

Opening hours⏰07:00 AM — 10:45 PM This iconic iron elevator is one of Lisbon’s landmarks. Though originally built as part of the city’s public transport system, it is now mostly used by tourists. Since there are often long queues, locals rarely use it for commuting.

🇵🇹Museu Arqueológico do Carmo

Opening hours⏰10:00 AM — 6:00 PM, Closed on Sundays and January 1st, May 1st, December 25th Ticket price💰€7 per adult person, tickets available on-site After taking the Santa Justa Lift, you’ll arrive at the Carmo Convent, built between 1389 and 1423 in Gothic style. The convent also houses an archaeological museum. The ruins remain as a reminder of the 1755 earthquake, which heavily damaged the structure.

🇵🇹Praça do Comércio

Located along the Tagus River, this massive square is one of Lisbon’s most famous landmarks. Trams run along the coastal road, making it a scenic and convenient stop for visitors. Arco da Rua Augusta (Augusta Street Arch) and Rua Augusta (Augusta Street) are must-visit areas for shopping and photography.
