Amy Acton, candidate for governor, is break from status quo
The 2026 governor’s race is heated to say the least: Two presumptive nominees from each party are running to be in charge of our state. Even though we’re still about one year from the election, it’s already begun, with both candidates traveling across the state to appeal to voters.
The contrast between the two candidates is clear. It’s incredibly important to consider who has effectively led people, faced many hardships and still come out on top. That to me sounds like one person in this race: Amy Acton, ready to lead Ohio through its toughest obstacles.
Dr. Amy Acton is a leader tested in crisis
We can all agree that the COVID-19 pandemic was a very trying time, filled with uncertainty and an unwelcome spread of misinformation. We were lucky to have Acton in charge of the Ohio Department of Health, the first woman to lead it.
Through the thick of the pandemic, Acton was there to guide Ohioans with factual, science-based decisions with calmness that allowed Ohio to be one of the more effective states to handle COVID-19.
Her decisions showed immense courage and competence, and she didn’t play partisan politics either. She listened to Gov. Mike DeWine to make sure all Ohioans were safe and had the best information out there.
She has proven to us that she doesn’t sit behind a desk and dictate what happens; she gets her hands dirty to provide results and leads on the front lines while being transparent.
Dr. Amy Acton’s story reflects Ohio
One of the biggest things when looking for someone to lead is who truly loves it and understands my situation. Acton’s roots are in Youngstown, where her family worked in steel mills. During her childhood, she faced periods of homelessness and overcame abuse in her family. Those experiences shaped her deep understanding of what it means to face adversity.
Her story resonates with everyday Ohioans because she’s faced challenges that other Ohioans face. She doesn’t only talk about building an Ohio that allows families to thrive; she understands firsthand the difference between thriving and surviving.
Her story and authenticity set her apart from politicians who run to have a position. Acton knows what it’s like when healthcare is unaffordable for many people, when economic security feels out of reach, and when the government doesn’t work for the people.
Dr. Amy Acton has a vision for affordability and fairness
Acton will use her expertise to deal with one of the most pressing issues Ohioans faces: she is committed to lowering the costs of goods and prescriptions by using the state’s authority. She also will work to protect labor unions and jobs by vetoing bills that destroy Ohio unions and invest in development to further establish pathways into union jobs, such as apprenticeships.
Her vision for Ohio’s economy is one that works for everyone, not just the wealthy individuals wanting to take advantage of Ohioans. She wants to build a diverse, resilient economy where every community, from cities to rural towns, has the resources and opportunities to excel.
Dr. Amy Acton is a break from politics as usual
Acton provides something fresh and exciting to Ohio. She represents change and breaks from the status quo. Her campaign is mainly funded by small-dollar donations that prove her broad grassroots support rather than heavy reliance on special interest groups.
Acton has the courage to do what’s right even if it’s difficult. She proved this during the pandemic, and she’ll bring that integrity into the governor’s office.
Ohio deserves leadership that puts people over politics and has the expertise and experience to turn vision into reality.
Acton is calling on all of us to help build the Ohio we all want to live in, an Ohio where every family has access to affordable healthcare, where economic opportunity is shared broadly, and where government works for everyone. That’s the future worth fighting for. That’s why Ohioans from all walks of life and I are proud to support Acton for governor.
