Are you being Mortgage Shoehorned?
Back in a little town called Weston-Super-(Duper)-Mare was a sports shop called D2. They predominantly served the great and good of the town with what we’d now call athleisure which meant their Vans and Converse seemed not so popular and were often on sale. Great news for me.
One day, I asked to try a pair of Vans. I asked for a size 6. The member of staff returned empty handed from the stock room and said:
“I don’t have a size 6, just a 3 or an 8, are they any good?”
It’s a baffling exchange I’ve never forgotten but this anecdote has become a perfect analogy to explain to my clients the difference between:
- Going straight to your bank for your mortgage, and
- Speaking with a whole of market Mortgage Advisor.
Going straight to your bank means you’ll be only offered their products, and likely have your preferences and circumstances shoehorned into what they have available.
Does their product really stand you in the best stead for now and the future? Has that conversation even been had?
In contrast, speaking to an Advisor not tied to one lender, or even a small panel of lenders, opens doors, opens conversation and means that your mortgage product will be the cheapest product that meets your preferences, your criteria and that of the property you are buying. You, first. Sounds better right?
