It’s something my mom always does which it’s like a habit. Whenever she has things or doing something, like buying something a bit expensive, starts a new project or idea, changing hairstyle, even rotate goods in her bedroom, she always explains her reasons for doing it, even when no one asks. And the excuses can sometimes be a bit far-fetched, overly contrived, or just plain superficial, which really makes us raise our eyebrows.

It’s like she’s afraid we’ll judge her choices, disagree with her, or think what she’s doing isn’t good enough.

To me, it feels like a sign that she doesn’t fully trust herself to make decisions on her own. Maybe she feels hesitant or guilty about doing something new or different. Like she always needs approval or permission from others before doing anything.

I don’t know… maybe it comes from her childhood, maybe she wasn’t given enough space or trust. Or maybe it’s the result of being married to an authoritarian, narcissistic man (my father).

Personally, I think we don’t owe the world any explanations for what we do, as long as we’re not harming anyone and we’ve thought it through and believe in our choice.

That feeling of “needing to report everything” kind of shows that we don’t fully own our power or our right to decide for ourselves.

Anyway, not everything needs a reason behind it to be done. And clinging to excuses can often just be a sign of desperation.

Thank you for reading 🤓
