France — Belgium: the official line-ups

Now comes the big test for the French team, who take on Belgium in the last 16 of Euro 2024. Although Les Bleus are favourites after an average group stage, they will have to raise their game and be more realistic. Opposite them, the Belgians are also plagued by doubts after a tricky first half of the competition, and the Red Devils will certainly be keen to take their revenge on the French, six years after their defeat in the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup. Coach Didier Deschamps has opted for a 4–4–2 diamond formation. The defence is unchanged with Koundé, Upamecano, Saliba and Théo Hernandez. Tchouameni, Kanté and Rabiot, who lined up together against Poland, are back in the starting XI, with the Real Madrid player playing the role of sentinel in front of the defence. Finally, in attack, Griezmann will line up in support of Mbappé and Thuram. For the Belgians, Domenico Tedesco has opted for a 4–4–2 formation. With Casteels in goal, Castagne and Theate on the defensive flanks and a Faes-Vertonghen hinge. De Bruyne is partnered by Onana in midfield, with Doku and Carrasco on the flanks. In attack, Openda starts alongside national striker Lukaku.
