I started my career as a freelancer in 2021, and honestly?

It was going really well.

I was offering writing, SEO, and web design services, working with global clients all from my home.

No commute, no office politics, just me, my laptop, and a growing list of clients who trusted my work while completing my graduation.

I was building something, and I could feel it.

Then 2022 came, and life happened all at once.

I got married, and as beautiful as that was, marriage brought its own set of challenges I wasn’t fully prepared for.

A new home, new responsibilities, new dynamics and somewhere in the middle of all of that, my career started slipping.

Client work slowed down.

My momentum broke, and then I found out I was expecting my first son, and just like that, the business I’d been building quietly went on pause.

I won’t sugarcoat it.

That period was hard.

I felt like I was losing the version of myself I’d worked so hard to build.

But here’s the thing about women who are builders — we don’t stay down for long.

While I was pregnant with my second child, I made a decision.

I wasn’t going to wait until life “settled down” because with kids, life never fully settles down.

So I opened my laptop again, reached out to old connections, pulled out every resource I had, and started again.

Mom guilt hits differently when you’re an entrepreneur.

There were evenings I chose to finish a client project instead of watching a cartoon with my son.

Your schedule will never be perfect. I stopped trying to find the “perfect” work block and started working in whatever windows I had. Nap time. Early mornings before anyone woke up. After bedtime. Fifteen minutes here, thirty minutes there. You’d be amazed what you can build in stolen pockets of time.

You will need to communicate your boundaries clearly. To your family, to your clients, and to yourself. I had to learn to say, “I’m working right now” without apologizing for it. That took longer than it should have.
