A Mathematical Calendar Puzzle

Today’s puzzle comes from a mathematical calendar my good friend and Liminal Chief Builder Sonny Vu.
As you can see, each day there’s a maths puzzle for us to solve. And if you are a bit more observant, you will have realised that the date of the month is the answer to the puzzle.
So of course the area of the rectangle ABCD is 12, but that’s not fun.
The fun part is coming up with our own way to get to the answer.
Soo, let’s do just that, my friend.

Solution

So yes we first find the height of the triangle by considering BC as its base.
That gives us height h = 12/5.
So the area of the rectangle is 12.
And that’s our answer. How amazing :)
Ok I will admit that this image is generated using ChatGPT, but I think it works perfectly, no?
It’s clear and correct. I mean for the purpose of explaining a simple maths puzzle like this one, it’s more than good enough. Because otherwise I would be making similar graphs on CANVA by spending at least an extra 15 minutes dragging, dropping, drawing and coloring.
What do you think? I would REALLY like to hear your thoughts.
