Don Khong to Pakse by Minibus: My Experience Leaving Laos' 4000 Islands

Everything I learned about getting from Si Phan Don to Pakse, including the ferry, minibus, and travel tips.

Minibus to Pakse

After spending one relaxing night on Don Khong in Laos' beautiful 4000 Islands (Si Phan Don), it was finally time to continue our journey.

Finding information about how to leave the islands turned out to be much harder than finding information about getting there. Most travel guides focus on arriving at Si Phan Don, but very few explain what happens when it's time to head back to Pakse.

Since I couldn't find many detailed first-hand accounts before my trip, I decided to document my own experience.

Our journey was taking a minibus bound for Pakse. Overall, the trip was straightforward, but there were a few things that would have made the journey less stressful if I had known them in advance.

For example:

  • Where to buy tickets
  • How long the journey really takes
  • What to expect during the minibus ride

Tips that can save you time and confusion

If you're planning to travel from Don Khong to Pakse, I hope my experience helps you prepare for the journey.

I've written a much more detailed guide on our travel blog, including photos, practical advice, and a step-by-step breakdown of the entire trip.
