Relationship that Brings Prayer
Genesis 18:16–20
Personal sermon note from Ps Arthur at MDC Surabaya
We are a friend of God. Abraham has a deep and personal relationship with God. So much so, that when God wants to investigate Sodom & Gomorrah. He asked. Respectfully. Abraham posited his plea, with respect born out of his personal relationship with Him. Respect means we are wholly true whether in our prayer and in real life, in respect to His witness to our behavior. It is not praying one thing, then become disgruntled “behind His back”.
It is also worth noting, that God is the God who investigates. He is willing to step down and check what is wrong. No outcry or complaint is too small for Him. He cares. He does not feel burdened by the pleas of His children, to the cries of the disturbed.
Abraham was persistent in his prayer, because he knew how valuable the souls of the people from Sodom & Gomorrah. If we know our call, we will value His value in His call. What we value, we pray. Abraham knew his calling to be the father of blessings to many nations. Likewise, we are called to be salt and light for the earth. We are called to intercede for people around us.
