British-American Man Executed By Electric Chair After Attacking Couple Over $60 & A Truck

JC and Mary Sawyer were home when an armed man broke in, marched them out to the woods, executed JC and tried the same with Mary.

Nicholas Ingram

Nicholas Ingram

At around 6:30 pm on June 3rd, 1983, Nicholas Ingram entered the home of JC and Mary Eunice Sawyer, demanding to use their phone before switching to wanting their money and car keys. He shot at the living room floor to prove that the pearl-handled gun was real, threatening to kill the couple if they didn’t comply.

Mary gave him $60 while JC gave the keys to his Chevy pickup truck. That should have been it, but Ingram made them walk into the woods around their home, using a rope to tie their hands behind their backs and then to a tree.

He told Mary to remember the tattoo on his arm because it was going to get her killed. He went on and on with threats as the couple begged for their lives. Ingram took off his shirt while claiming to enjoy torturing his victims. He ripped the shirt in two and put the halves into JC and Mary’s mouths.

Both were shot in the head, killing JC instantly, but Mary survived. She lay beside her husband’s body, pretending to be dead, waiting for Ingram to leave. After the truck drove away, Mary managed to untie herself from the tree and made it to the neighbour’s for help.

At around 8 pm, Ingram showed up at a convenience store where his friend worked, JC’s truck parked out front. The truck was recovered three days later in Mississippi, the police finding a motel receipt inside. The motel’s copy of the receipt was found, and the police were able to match the handwriting to Ingram’s.

He was eventually arrested for a DUI in Nebraska.

While they were questioning him about the stolen car Ingram was arrested in, he outright told them that he was wanted for a double murder in Cobb County, Georgia.

He gave a long statement, recalling the events when he arrived at the Sawyer home and when he left it, but somehow he completely forgot the act of robbing and shooting the couple. His excuse was that he got blackout drunk.

He was convicted in November 1983 of robbing the Sawyers of $60 and their truck, then murdering JC Sawyer and assaulting Mary. He was sentenced to death for the savagery of the crimes.

He would be on death row until 1995, despite countless appeals, including one claiming Ingram was sedated with anti-psychotics, making him seem emotionless during the trial. On the 7th of April 1995, at around 9:15 pm, Ingram died on the electric chair.

That’s all for this case. Thank you for reading!
