The Importance of Water

This is not some random 5th-grade essay on ‘how you should save water’, ‘water pollution’ and all that. This is a real incident that actually happened to me.

We were going to a picnic, organized by our sports club. In the morning, when we got on the bus, we were each given a small plastic bottle, containing mineral water. We didn’t drink it at the moment, but kept it in our bags. Then, a few songs were played. Everyone danced. The bus rocked from side to side, until the teacher-in-charge decided that enough was enough, and made us all sit down in our seats. We all were sweaty and hot from singing, dancing and goofing around in the bus. We drank the water, but also sprayed some of it onto the kids sitting in the front seats. To be precise — we wasted our water thoughtlessly.

We arrived at the picnic ground. Some played badminton, some played football. The rest of us chatted, and walked around in the sun. I, personally, played badminton and football and walked around in the sun. As expected, we got hot. The people at the picnic ground had some water in a tank, and had kept out a few plastic glasses. So, a couple of guys thought, ‘Why don’t we play Holi in December?’ (if you don’t know about Holi, just look it up). So, misusing the wonderful but underused brains implanted in our skulls (which can also solve world hunger, if used correctly), we created our own water-guns from scratch, and watered the entire ground for the staff (but they were not happy about it, as expected 🙃🙃).

Before you knew it, it was time to get home. We were all tired out from playing, and very thirsty. So, we asked the teacher-in-charge for water, which he was not able to give. Apparently, there was an error in the number of students arriving, and a lot less water was packed. Unfortunately, we all had to borrow the water which the bus driver was keeping for himself (poor chap…), and a lot of us were still thirsty. A friend of mine was so fatigued, it looked like he was going to faint or go into a coma any moment, if he did not get a drink of water. I guess we really were desperate, for a half-drunk bottle of water was rolling about on the floor for most of the time, and we absolutely devoured that.

Well, by the time I got home, I was as thirsty as a traveller stuck in the Sahara desert, and finished an entire bottle of water, in front of my astonished parents.

So, guess what? DON’T WASTE WATER. YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT IT’S LIKE TO BE REALLY THIRSTY.
