The great thing about studying maps is the variety of subjects that can be studied. For this map the breif was to map a journey. Here is the journey of the river Spey in Scotland. The spey itself starts 117km inland of the small village of Kingston. The quality of the water has made it famous for the quality of whisky that can be produced.
A Map of Speyside Distilleries in Scotland
The source for the river data was the OS Open River data. The selection of the river and it’s tributies was done manually. Using ArcGIS a legend has been created to show only the items on the map. The items have been labelled by creating a new column in the data field. The ‘calcualte’ function has been used that concatenates the ID field as indexed in the .csv file, with the distillery name.
