Eswatini MPs Marwick, Bacede plan to form own Political party

Eswatini’s most influential Member of Parliament Marwick Khumalo is planning to form a break away political party from Sive Siyinqaba Sibahle Sinje.

Marwick will lead this new political organisation together with his jailed colleague Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza.

This is the reason why Bacede and the other jailed MP Mthandeni Dube have requested exiled former Siphofaneni MP Mduduzi Gawuzela Simelane not to associate them with his recently formed political party known as the Swaziland Liberation Movement (SWALIMO).

Already, Marwick is lobbying some of his colleagues in parliament to join his new political organisation.

Some MPs have already bought into the idea of a political party led by Marwick and Bacede.

These MPs are mainly those who have been seen alongside Marwick attending the court case of Bacede and Mthandeni Dube.

The legislators include Nkilongo MP Timothy Myeni, Nhlambeni MP Manzi Zwane, Timphisini MP Nelson Mamba, Nkhaba MP Zakhele Magongo, Sithobela MP Bhekitje Dlamini, Mtsambama MP Simosakhe Shongwe, Gilgal MP Sandla Fakudze and Somntongo MP Dumisani Mabhamali.

News that Marwick is forming his own political party have not been warmly accepted by members of Sibahle Sinje, which is an organisation that he co-founded.

Senior members of Sibahle Sinje have been holding secret meetings to discuss Marwick’s plans and they are concerned that he is also recruiting some of their members.

The members he is targeting within Sibahle Sinje include individuals who belong to the Royal family, a number of businessmen, and some scholars.

Marwick has the financial backing of Mainland China through member of the Royal family Prince Thumbumuzi who has close relations with the Red Chinese.

Thumbumuzi and Marwick are the ones who arranged a controversial visit to Mainland China by a group of MPs and Senators.

Before the two MPs were incarcerated, Bacede had already held discussions with MP Timothy about the idea of forming a political party but they had not been concluded when the police pounced on the duo and had them charged with terrorism.

That is the more reason why Bacede has asked Timothy to be the one who speaks on his and Mthandeni’s behalf on issues touching on their parliamentary and political responsibilities as opposed to Gawuzela speaking on their behalf.

Marwick has also been influential in getting Bacede and Mthandeni to distance themselves from Gawuzela’s SWALIMO because he felt this would reflect negatively once they announce the formation of their own party.

It is not yet certain as to when the announcement of the formation of the political party will be made, but speculation is that it might be as soon as the court case involving Bacede and Mthandeni is concluded and alternatively, after the outcome of the National Dialogue.

However, stalwarts of Sibahle Sinje have vowed to take Marwick to task for poaching their members and for using the political party’s name to solicit funds but then redirect them towards financing of his own political organisation.
