2021–2025 Dodge Durango Uconnect 5 Touchscreen Problems

The Durango moved to the Uconnect 5 platform for the 2021 model year, and on Durangos built with the available 10.1-inch display, that screen is now old enough to start showing the same wear patterns as any other vehicle touchscreen. Cracked glass, dead touch zones, ghost touching, and lines or discoloration in the image are the most common complaints owners report. Before assuming the worst about the radio module, it is worth separating an actual display failure from a module, wiring, or software problem, since the fix and the cost are very different depending on which one you are dealing with.

Common symptoms on the 10.1-inch Uconnect 5 display

Owners of 2021–2025 Durango models with the factory 10.1-inch screen most often report one or more of the following:

  • Cracked or shattered display glass
  • Touch input that does not register anywhere on the screen
  • Dead zones where only part of the screen responds to touch
  • Ghost touching, where the screen registers taps or changes on its own
  • Lines, discoloration, distorted images, or dead pixels
  • A dark or blank display when the panel itself has failed
  • A worn or scratched screen surface that has become difficult to see in daylight

Is it the screen, or is it the radio module?

This is the most important question to answer before ordering any part. A display-level failure looks different from a module-level failure, and the two require completely different repairs.

If the screen still shows a clear, normal image and the only problem is touch response, the touchscreen digitizer layer is the likely cause. If the image itself has cracks, lines, dead pixels, or areas that are dark or washed out, the LCD panel has failed. Both of these point to the display assembly, which is the part this repair addresses.

On the other hand, if the radio has no power at all, produces no audio, reboots repeatedly on its own, or shows a communication warning message, those symptoms point away from the screen and toward the radio module, the telematics module, a wiring harness fault, a blown fuse, or a power or ground circuit issue. A new display assembly will not resolve any of those, so it is worth ruling them out first.
