TRAVELING A SPIRITUAL PATH
An astute, spiritual friend said to me many years ago, when I first began having challenges with the builder of my new Boquete, Panama, home, “Haven’t you figured out yet that you aren’t supposed to live there?”
No, I hadn’t. I’m stubborn. I exhaust every possible avenue I can think of to resolve a conflicted situation or relationship before I surrender and walk away. However, when Higher Power doesn’t want me to stay where I am, She slaps me harder and harder and puts more and more roadblocks in my way, until I have no choice but to abandon my original plans and move in a new direction. From hindsight, the new direction is invariably the one my spiritual path is intended to take.
A spiritual path is a way of Being, an attitude, a consciousness, a way of moving through this physical life. Religion is an attempt to reflect the spiritual path by using human-created words as a guide and art form— an effort that can never be adequately accomplished because of what the words we humans have created do.
What do words do? They separate, divide, and categorize. Spirituality is an Ineffable Energy that flows through - whole and integrated. Words are only static placeholders and artistic reflections of that Energy. While often, words can guide a seeker to experience what has been called “Truth”, the words themselves are not Truth. Using words to communicate a spiritual experience is like trying to use a screwdriver to hammer a nail.
