Devotional of Truth: Dealing with An Idol: Recreational Sugar
Day 1: Depressed, Sad…Simply Grieving The Idol.
For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.”
If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness. Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. (Hebrews 12:6–11 NKJV)

How do I feel right now? …Starting my morning with just fruit, shredded wheat with no sugar but the raisins that are in it that I had to make sure was just raisins?…I’m pretty darn sad. Tears in my eyes…Tears in my soul…
However, I know what God is instructing me to do is best for me.
What is He instructing me to do you ask?
To get rid of recreational sugar completely!!! Yes! Completely! No gimmicks! No games! Just try it out He says and trust Him.**
Trust Him?! Woo if you only knew what I wanted to do and say but deep down I knew He knows what He is doing and I don’t!
Recently while listening to a powerful podcast by The Perry’s on Youtube, Mrs. Perry said something that rang true.
She said, “If you ain’t getting hit upside the head at times by God, you may not be His Child!”
I immediately was in agreement with her but little did I know that soon I would be getting hit upside the head spiritually again by God. For He loves those He chastens, right?! Right?! Does it feel good?! NO!!!! It is very uncomfortable and every “Idol delivering season” I’ve had, I had to grieve the “drug”. The consuming of a thing that was controlling my whole or important parts of my life.
What was the important part of my life the sugar was destroying, my mind and body. Ya know?! The mind and body that we are supposed to be glorifying God in?! (1 Corinthians 6:20).
Let’s check out some of 1 Corinthians 6:12–20 shall we?
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
Meaning we have the freedom through Freewill to do what we want but we must test the spirit and question ourselves and say to ourselves, “Is this beneficial for my body Lord? Is this something that will master me if I engage in it or consume it?
Think “Apple of the serpent”
It smells good, feels good, and may even taste good but is it good for me and others around me? Period!
Foods for the stomach and the stomach for foods, but God will destroy both it and them.
Food and the stomach is temporary and God will destroy them both.
Now the body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. And God both raised up the Lord and will also raise us up by His power.
Our body is His as well as our souls. I know it sounds very controlling and dominant right?! We ask for understanding Lord because this is a lot for us, sinners saved by Your grace.
Your Grace!!
Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not! Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.”
What our bodies are joined too, we become!!! — Holy Spirit
But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.
Flee sexual immorality.
Woo! This word flee I tell ya sometimes God truly means that we need to flee LITERALLY from whatever we can not control in that very moment. The god we gave our heart to and put in the place of His throne.
Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.
This also includes when we abuse our bodies with food. I heard yesterday that doing any compulsive and/or harmful eating behaviors with our bodies is being violent toward ourselves! Deep right?!
Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
WE are not our own! WHY?!
For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
There is the command folks. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. No one elses. Not the drink, the drug, the man or the woman, your job or money but you are His.
We are His!
Not in a controlling or dominant way. NO.
From a Father to His Child kind of way.
It talks about in our emphasis scripture, that if a father of the earth corrects their child, why should it be different with God? Reality is, it is not any different. We too, as His Children are trained up in the way that we should go. That Way is through Yahweh His son who died for us. Through His Way of Truth brings life so we can have it and have it more abundantly.
It paves out our path to Eternal Life with the Father…
…May we all continue the path to the Father. In Jesus Name…
Let us pray.
Dear Heavenly Father,
You know all who are in this journey with me this very day and hour of the last days. I pray Father that You strengthen their backs to carry the cross and cut off all that is not of You to be thrown into the lake of fire to keep their bodies, our bodies from being thrown into the lake of fire.
Remove all that is hindering their path to You and their purpose right here on Your earth. May You fill them up with fresh oil. May their cup runneth over with Your wisdom, love and Truth to pass on to others so others can also be filled and made whole. Bless You Lord thy God for Your intercession and revelation. In Jesus Name. Amen.
