I Tripped and Landed on My Knee
But I was with a nurse — or five — and was well cared for!
Wednesday, I was walking with a colleague to get some fresh air. I wasn’t watching my step and suddenly found myself on the ground. I had tripped over a curb.
They’re refreshing many of the major intersections in my neighbourhood to slow down traffic. They’re allowing pedestrians to use sidewalks that aren’t finished.
My colleague instantly switched to nurse mode, ascertaining injuries before helping me to my feet. My knee was already smarting with pain, but I could weight-bear.
I pulled up my long pants to survey the damage once back at the office. Seeing a deep gash on my knee, she foraged up some supplies to clean and dress the wound.
Another colleague grabbed some ice while several others offered sympathy and concern.
Although falling can be a fatal blow to an elderly person, I will survive. What hurt more was my pride…
