ECCV 2020 Spotlighted Paper: “Filter Style Transfer between Photos”

Last summer, a bright idea struck me during the technical discussion. Right away, I scrawled the mathematical formula to prove it. That is how ‘MyFilters’ was born. The initial name of the idea was ‘the method to extract filters based on the mean features of semantics.’ (평균 피쳐에 기반한 필터 추출 방법.)

In summary, this method exactly extracts the filter style that is applied to the image. For example, if you find stylish photos on Instagram, you can simply copy the filter and feeling. Moreover, it only takes <2ms to apply the filter to the new input.

This paper is special to me because it became a ‘SPOTLIGHTED’ (Top5%) paper at the top conference (ECCV) as well as a novel feature in Galaxy Smartphones (My Filters). You can find it in almost any Galaxy smartphone after you upgrade the software.

Personally, as always dreamed, I will move the technology forward. I will contribute myself to make a better future. This technology is a one-step forward, and I wish everyone enjoys it.

— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — 작년 여름 회의중에 떠오른 아이디어를 그자리에서 수식으로 만들었고 그렇게 마이필터 알고리즘을 만들었습니다. 그 당시 아이디어의 명칭은 평균피쳐에 기반한 필터 추출 방법 이었습니다.

요약하자면, 사진에 입혀진 필터 스타일을 정확히 따올 수 있는데요, 예를들어서 인스타그램에서 발견한 멋있는 사진에서 필터와 느낌을 그대로 복사해 올 수 있습니다. 복사한 이후에 그대로 사진을 찍을수 있는데요, 적용해서 찍는데 2ms이하로 걸리는 것도 장점입니다.

이 논문은 저에게도 매우 특별합니다. 탑 학회 ECCV에서 스포트라이트 (상위5%) 선정이 되었을 뿐만 아니라 갤럭시 스마트폰에도 적용이 되어서, 제가 만든 기술을 누구나 다 사용할 수 있기 때문입니다.

개인적으로 항상 목표했듯이, 인류가 가진 기술을 한단계 발전시키고 더 나은 미래를 만들기 위해 노력하려고 합니다. 그리고 이 기술이 그러한 목표선상에서 하나의 발걸음이 될 것입니다.
