Exploring Sitecore Search: A New Chapter in Search Journey

Why Sitecore Search caught my attention and how it fits perfectly into the Sitecore ecosystem.

few weeks back, I was busy working with Coveo Headless. I was building smart search experiences using Sitecore JSS and Next.js.

Over time, I got comfortable creating things like custom filters, location-based results, and result previews. It was powerful and flexible, and I thought I had figured out the best way to handle search in modern websites.

But recently, I came across something new that caught my attention that is Sitecore Search. It seemed worth exploring, and I was curious to see how it compares to what I have worked with so far.

What made me curious?

I first came across Sitecore Search in a short demo video. It looked straightforward and fast, definitely different from the traditional search setups I have worked with.

What stood out was how little manual configuration it seemed to need. Instead of setting up indexes or writing custom code, you just point it to a website or content feed, and it takes care of the rest:

  • Crawls the content
  • Organizes and understands the data
  • Makes it searchable with filters and preview options

And it does all this in just a few minutes.

That got me interested. I wanted to see how it really works, especially from a developer’s point of view.

My first experience:

I decided to test it out with a demo site.

Sitecore Search crawled the entire website in a few minutes and created a search experience with working filters, result previews, and relevance already applied.

I did not need to configure any backend. I did not need to deploy anything new.

It felt like search was something I could set up quickly and still do well.

Why It works well with Sitecore:

If you are already using Sitecore, especially in the headless or composable setup Sitecore Search fits in naturally.

  • It works with any frontend, including Next.js, React, or javascript sites
  • It connects easily to multiple content sources, not just Sitecore CMS
  • It is built with performance and modern user experiences in mind

Since I have been working a lot with Sitecore JSS, this felt like a piece that could fit really well into the bigger picture something I had not explored yet, but definitely worth looking into.

Why It is useful for the business:

What I also found interesting is that Sitecore Search is not just for developers like me. It’s actually quite helpful for content authors and marketers too.

  • See what people are searching for in real time
  • Tweak relevance settings without touching code
  • Run A/B tests and offer smarter suggestions

All of this can help improve user experience and boost engagement and since it is cloud-based, there is no much setup or maintenance to worry about.

What is next?

I have just started exploring Sitecore Search, and there’s a lot to learn.

In my upcoming blogs, I am planning to share:

  • How to connect your website with Sitecore Search
  • How to build a basic search interface using React or Next.js
  • How to adjust and improve results based on your users

Conclusion:

Getting started with something new can feel a bit tricky, but Sitecore Search makes it simple.

It works well with modern websites and fits nicely with Sitecore. Both developers and marketers can get a lot done without much setup.

This is just the start of my journey with Sitecore Search, and I am looking forward to learn more.
