If you’ve ever watched a video on AARP.org while logged into Facebook, you might be sitting on some money you didn’t even know about. A new $12.5 million class action settlement claims that AARP shared user data with Meta through the Facebook Pixel without proper consent. If you qualify, you could receive an estimated payout between $47 and $237, and no proof is required.

The lawsuit alleges that AARP disclosed users’ identities and video viewing activity, violating the Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA), a law that forbids sharing anyone’s viewing history without permission. While AARP denies any wrongdoing, it has agreed to settle the case to avoid a long and expensive legal fight.

If you were an AARP member or registered user between September 27, 2020, and September 12, 2025, and you watched videos on AARP.org while logged into Facebook, you can file a claim. The process is simple: fill out the claim form, include your Facebook profile link, and confirm that you watched videos during that time. No receipts or screenshots are needed, only your Facebook profile and a signed statement.

The final payout will depend on how many people file. If only a portion of eligible users submit claims, the amount could reach the higher end of the range, up to $237 per person. The claim deadline is December 31, 2025, so you still have plenty of time to file.

The case, officially titled Markels et al. v. AARP, is being heard in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The final approval hearing is scheduled for February 10, 2026, and payments will be issued once the settlement is finalized.

This case is another reminder that your personal data has value, even something as small as what you watch online. Sometimes that value can return to you as a check or direct deposit.
