A note on Visa

Just keep at it.

I’ve existed for many years now in the vicinity of the visakanworld in the twitterverse, and let me say that it is a true replica of what he’s written in his first book. (Friendly Ambitious Nerd) if you didnt know.

I saw a tweet by him yday asking everyone for some variety of a wish — i’m paraphrasing — I just know I went to sleep thinking I should write him something personalised.

And in true Visa fashion, what sense does it make to not actually write write, and share my appreciation for him in a small little note.

Back in 2020–2021 I was introduced to him by one “Ghuubear” who ….. legend, and nothing less. We were coworkers, G & I, and to watch his brain make connections was immensely cool. But when someone you work with is of that calibre, you tend to want to know who their inspiration in life is from.

So, I asked. and he answered.

Visa! Visakan…..

Every second sentence he would speak about twitter inspo was about something Visa had referenced, I would’ve never known about FAN before that….

Friendly Ambitious Nerds — oh how do I even begin to tell you that: a. what a gamechanger of a book b. I still havent actually finished it

mostly cause if you read more than 2 pages without stopping to re-read the sentences & understand it, you’re wasting the book, really.

but my problem has also been that object permanence skills are 0 if they’re not valid. so, i probably need to print it out for myself w a margin for notes on the side maybe.

(sidenote — a great option for making something is making regular books w journalling margins, and for adhd people, if you sell it with colouring pens or markers, we’re more likely to remember, but alas)

but regardless, over the last 3 years, visa’s words have rung true in many areas of my life.

i go back incessantly anytime i get the feeling i need to recalibrate my understanding of romance to his post on how he met Sharan. cause it’s quite a game of resilience the two of them played, but also just somehow that seemed to grow up with a large amount of self doubt and low self esteem i think i needed some of those lessons.

not to mention, sharan is a legendarily hilarious person.

i’ve never wanted to double down on the things i’m passionate about half as much as i do after i learnt about visa & his journey (you can do the work, and go figure out what i mean).

but i cant say i’ve been half as successful, cause one of Visa’s cardinal rules is “Do 💯 things” — or atleast that’s how i remember it. And what a wildly true and accurate piece of advice, cause if you stick with doing the same thing for a 100 days, eventually it becomes a habit, and then a skill as well. The real game is to go past that first milestone and stick with it, cause anything done with that much repetition and practice is bound to be good & great.

There’s this one tweet he has where he talks about how if you want to stay long term with someone to love, you have to learn how to fight. And, boy, is that shtuff HARDDDDD. but top notch advice.

not to mention, if you do something for a 100 days, it does NOT matter how niche you pick a thing — your tribe will eventually find you.

don’t ever think that that wont happen, cause if it is, it might mean you’re giving up on your niche & belief, not the other way around.

alsoooooo, his tweets on pop culture moments of the year as well as breakdowns on pop superstars are some of my favourite moments on the bird app.

i’ll end with, there is loads more i can talk about visa to you with, but i’ll let you discover the enamour of the magicman yourself.

happy 34th birthday, Visa, you’re quite a beast of a human bean to know of. and hopefully someday, in person too!
