The Story You’re Telling Yourself

Why is it often easier to see the value in others than it is to see it in ourselves?

We see what they have achieved, their qualities and the strengths they possess without knowing their history.

Yet when we look at ourselves, we often focus on our mistakes, disappointments, and insecurities.

We replay the moments things went wrong. We dwell on what is broken, missing, or imperfect.

Sometimes it’s because of the words we have repeatedly spoken to ourselves or because of the words spoken to us.

Sometimes it’s because of painful experiences we’ve carried for so long that they’ve become part of the story we believe about who we are.

We extend understanding and compassion to others while withholding it from ourselves.

Instead focus and recognize what has remained strong, faithful, and resilient through every season. That somehow you keep standing up, somehow you keep going forward somehow you keep pushing on.

Life can convince us that our mistakes define us, our wounds diminish us, or our struggles make us less worthy. We begin to measure our value by our achievements, our relationships, our appearance, or the expectations we have failed to meet.

But our value was never meant to be determined by our circumstances.

It was never meant to rise and fall with success or failure.

You are not valuable because you are perfect.

You are valuable because you were created with purpose.

Long before life told you who you should be, God had already declared that you were fearfully and wonderfully made.

Are those beliefs rooted in truth, or are they rooted in experiences that taught you to doubt your worth?
