How myAir0 Entered the Korean Market Through Crowdfunding

Discover the strategy behind myAir0’s two Wadiz campaigns — from product localization to Korea-exclusive launch tactics.

MyAir0, known for its innovative foldable mouse, entered the Korean market by launching a funding campaign on Wadiz. Its first campaign raised $248K (₩373 million) at a 37,346% achievement rate with 4,540 supporters. Two years later, an encore campaign closed at a 13,339% achievement rate with 995 supporters, adding $44K (₩66.7 million) in additional funding.

myAir0 didn’t win Korean supporters with minor feature upgrades. It captured the market by aligning its strategy directly with Korea’s lifestyle and consumer psychology — combining an innovative foldable design, a clear message for remote workers, and special perks just for Korea. Wadiz’s Global Team analyzed both campaigns and identified three repeatable decisions behind that success.

Three Strategies Behind Two Successful Campaigns

01. Turn Product Innovation into an Everyday Benefit

MyAir0’s core idea is a paradigm shift in portability: an origami-inspired mouse that folds flat to slide into a laptop sleeve, then unfolds into a full-size ergonomic shape. The campaign addressed a relatable, unspoken pain point — the “bulge” a bulky mouse and charger leave in a laptop sleeve. One supporter summed it up in the comments, describing years of cramming a charger and full-size mouse into a sleeve before the bulge finally disappeared.

To lower the barrier to an unfamiliar form factor, myAir0 treated the folding structure as a language of portability: fold to turn off, unfold to turn on. That blend of practical utility and a shareable “show-off” mechanic resonated with Wadiz’s early adopters, turning an unusual structure into a must-have solution to an everyday problem.

02. Build the Campaign Around One Korean Customer Persona

Both the original and the encore campaign titles carried the same phrase in Korean: “A must-have for fieldwork.” That line told supporters exactly who the product was for before they read a single spec.

Rather than marketing to “anyone who uses a mouse,” myAir0 narrowed its focus to office workers who travel for work — commuting between client sites, working from cafés, or carrying a laptop between meetings. That framing tapped directly into a broader Korean lifestyle pattern: so many people work or study away from a fixed desk that they’ve earned their own nickname, “kagong-jok” (laptop nomads in cafés). In a country where shared offices and study cafés are ubiquitous, myAir0’s cultural fit was seamless.

To drive conversion, the campaign integrated real-user reviews that validated these exact scenarios. One supporter wrote that traveling constantly for work made a bulky mouse inconvenient, and this product solved it instantly. The takeaway for makers: naming the exact moment of use is more powerful than leading with a dry spec list.

03. Sell Korea-Exclusive Access: Tailoring for the Local Fanbase

myAir0’s first campaign introduced colors made exclusively for Korean supporters. The encore campaign built on that, adding two new colors revealed on Wadiz before anywhere else.

The reward structure reinforced the exclusive feel with clear price benefits over direct overseas purchasing — up to 38,400 KRW (nearly $30) cheaper than importing with its typical $25 shipping fee. Quantity discounts ranged from 20% for a single unit to 22–23% for multi-unit bundles, and limited packages pairing the mouse with a matching pouch pushed savings further, nudging existing backers toward a second color while making entry easy for newcomers.

This project wasn’t built on one massive round — it succeeded by stacking consecutive rounds into a compounding community. Korea-only availability, exclusive colors, custom pouches, and a “1+1” event gave existing fans a reason to upgrade and new supporters a reason to join. For overseas makers, Korea-exclusivity and local price advantages can be the decisive factor in a supporter’s decision to fund. A strong first campaign opens the door to an encore — and that’s where long-term brand fandom is built.
