The Other Side of Eden is a dark thriller that depicts the complex lives of people in the 1880s and then 1947, i.e., pre- and post-British Rule. The story starts in 1883, set in Kashmir. The struggle of a father-son duo (Omar and Hussein) is described. After being attacked in a massacre that killed their family, the two fled their hometown.
On the other side is the Sultan with lots of hidden secrets and a hunger for power. The next phase of the story is set in the year 1947. Hussein has grown up and found the love of his life, which eventually doesn’t work out. Meanwhile, the other sultan, Aslan, reigns.

The narrative is rich. Beautiful language is used to describe each event. It seems the author successfully used the “show, don’t tell” technique. The story focuses on betrayals. This novel is intriguing but a little clear direction would have made it better.
