New York Vs Bihar?- A comparison between two ends of the world.

Recently we had seen two major elections in the world of politics & this article will illustrate the contrasting differences between the two of them.

Zohran Mamdani was elected the new Mayor of NY City on November 4, 2025. His groundswell and sudden burst to uber popularity has been wild to see, it feels you can’t go anywhere on social media without seeing the guy, and who can blame the algorithms, Zohran is incredibly charming, super likeable and feels like a shot in the arm in the US politics, which has been plagued by old timers for some time now, if you don’t believe me, just ask the current President (did you see how he was looking at Zohran during the press conference?)

But regardless, this article is here to showcase the striking differences between two places, which couldn’t be further apart from each other, both geographically and culturally. On one hand, you have the big apple, the creme de la creme, the place which is often regarded as the busiest city in the world-New York City and on the other hand we have another place which as also very busy, we can call it the big thekua or something, but jokes aside, Bihar is a beautiful state, full of vigour you can’t find anywhere else, but its also a state which is caught in traditions and old tales in my opinion.

The recent Bihar elections saw NDA attain a decisive victory in the state, all while Mr. Nitish Kumar sat the helm. This is Mr. Kumar’s 10th term as the CM of Bihar, he has held a vice grip on this post since 2000, that’s 25 years of the same politician being at the top of a state, not the same political party, mind you, because Mr. Kumar here has had his fare share of switches in his time in the game. For someone to be in power for so long, you would expect that place to be thriving in his reign, right? Well, yes and no.

Bihar has grown tremendously since 2005, both in infrastructure and economy, but the problem are abundant as well, Mainly, corruption.

Bihar is India’s most densely populated state, but still the unemployment among graduates is nearly 3 times the national average, and of course the migration problem, where skilled and smart individuals eventually migrate to Delhi, Gujarat or Maharashtra for work.

But nevertheless, my sentiments don’t really matter in either cases, because i don’t live in either of these places, my aim is to compare the political beast in both of these places, and most importantly, the state of young politicians in India.

Mamdani is 34 years old. Nitish Kumar is 74 years old.

Politics has historically been an old mans game, especially in India. The United States of America isn’t free from this debacle as well, just look at the last 2 presidents. But the point is, the way Zohran Mamdani has used social media and tackled young peoples’ issues was honestly very refreshing, felt like the first proper Gen Z politician, which feels weird to say because he is not even Gen Z himself. I wish some politician makes me feel the same way in India as well, but that day is not coming any time soon.

The mean age of the MPs in the Indian Parliament is 56 years.

How are young people’s issues going to be raised in such an environment? With the nature of the current ruling party of India as well being the extreme right, what happens to the liberal voices of India? There isn’t a distinct voice in the space for people of my age group and that’s sad.

The Indian Political System needs a jolt in the arm as well, one which will come sooner rather than later, because it won’t always remain the same. The opposition is also trying, trying being the keyword there, because it feels that at most times that party is 2 steps forward & 3 steps back.

Often times it feels the primary purpose of political parties in India is not to help the population or to reduce unemployment or to solve any major issues of the society, its to win another seat, to acquire more power, which leads to a continuous vicious cycle of such periods.

While Zohran is in cyphers in the NY rap scene, our politicians refuse to get on the ground, and explore their beautiful land by themselves. While Zohran utilized the powers of social media to ultimately benefit the people of New York, our politicians are busy giving fake podcasts or fighting through memes on Instagram pages.

Its not all sunshine and rainbows in New York as well, I am sure, but at the very least there is a wind of change over there, something which has been felt not only in that city, but all over the world.

Nothing can change in a day, or a month even, for there to be a seismic shift in the Indian political landscape, it will take years maybe even decades, my plea to my fellow young people is simple however.

Be more aware.

More aware of who you choose and more importantly why you chose them, the country is in our hands, politics controls our daily life, whether we like it or not, vote according to the capabilities of the leaders.

The politicians are ultimately servers of the nation, don’t let the nation serve the politicians.

And at the top most priority, try out thekua- a proper one, from Bihar.
