I will not beat about the bush and bombard you with anything that makes it look hard.

It is in simple living that the real secret of happiness lies. Decluttering my mind has always produced the best results for me.

Just a few simple choices that can give one a lifetime of happiness.

1. Wake Up Early :

  • It is hard for many people, but imperative for a happy mind.
  • Morning is the time of new beginnings.
  • It has the latent aura that shrouds you and prepares you for the day ahead.
  • It is full of wonders of life- the rising sun, chirping birds, a meditative sky, and a calm environment.
  • Set an alarm everyday for 2 weeks.
  • At least try.

2. Drink Plenty Of Water :

  • The moment you wake up, water must be the very first thing to go into your body.
  • It is like a ritual for me.
  • Drink at least 500 ml.
  • It is truly the elixir of life.
  • At least try.

3. Do Meditation And Yoga :

  • I am not the first human specimen to talk about it.
  • Meditation is indispensable in this age when mental health can’t be ignored.
  • I usually practise Anulom- Vilom for an hour.
  • It makes you feel good about yourself.
  • Start with 15 minutes.
  • At least try.

4. Do Exercise :

  • A simple walk, a jog or a run is just enough to wake up all the parts of your body.
  • I usually go for push-ups, crunches and running.
  • It is important to make your sweat glands work.
  • Start with the basic PT exercise you once did in your school.
  • Give yourself half an hour.
  • At least try.

5. Don’t Skip Your Breakfast:

  • Ever.
  • Our body needs fuel to work properly.
  • I get a headache whenever I skip my breakfast which acts as an alarm for me.
  • Eating a healthy breakfast comprising fruits, sprouts, grams, nuts, and cucumber is a great way to greet your body.
  • Or whatever is available to you.
  • At least try.

6. Practise Mindful Living :

  • If you have a monkey mind like mine, it is super necessary to practise it.
  • This world of wonders is also full of distractions.
  • It doesn’t let your mind settle down on one thing.
  • Take a long deep breath and enjoy the present moment- the work you are doing, the warmth of sunlight on your hand, feel the water you drink and the air you breathe.
  • Eat without your phone, savoring the taste of food.
  • Start with just observing your breaths.
  • At least try.

7. Read And Write :

  • It is good for keeping your mental faculties in tip-top shape.
  • I read mostly self help books.
  • My favourite writers are Robin Sharma and Ruskin Bond.
  • Read and write whatever gives you happiness.
  • Start with a single page.
  • At least try.

8. Keep Your Mind Free from Stress :

  • My mother simply advised me: Don’t stress over things you can’t control.
  • Don’t let worries eat upon your mind for far too long.
  • Your mental energy must be directed to a more fruitful pursuit.
  • I write down things that bother me and look for a solution if there is one.
  • Positive affirmations are best to force positivity into your life.
  • If something is eating upon your mind, it is better to shun it downright if it is out of your control.
  • Start with writing about your worries on a paper and see if you can do something about them.
  • At least try.

9. Be Kind To Everyone Including Yourself :

  • Live and let live.
  • The fact is everyone is battling with one thing or the other in his life.
  • Your simple gesture of kindness may rekindle hope and happiness in someone’s life.
  • You never know.
  • I try to be kind to everyone I meet.
  • Don’t keep any hard feelings for anyone; Simply forgive others and move on.
  • Sometimes, I go hard on myself for being so dumb. I am learning to be kind to myself as well.
  • Start with simply patting yourself on the back for making it this far.
  • At least try.

10. Pray and Be Grateful :

  • When you can’t see the way ahead, just believe in the Almighty.
  • We remember God only when we are surrounded by problems.
  • It is ok.
  • One must keep in mind the ephemeral nature of existence and be grateful for every breath.
  • I am grateful to the Almighty for my family, and all other gifts bestowed upon me.
  • Prayers are like seeds scattered into the ploughed fields of life that sprout into blessings with time.
  • Pray for yourself and others.
  • At least try.

11. Sleep Well :

  • It is as important as breathing, if not more.
  • Depriving yourself of sleep may be detrimental to your health and life.
  • I try to sleep for at least 6 hours.
  • Keeping your phone off your sight and site half an hour before going to bed really helps.
  • Before you go to bed, plan your next day on paper.
  • It helps you get organised and gives your mind a discrete plan to follow.
  • You will appreciate this the next day.
  • Start with a simple schedule.
  • At least try.

Besides this, don’t forget to spice up your life with laughter and smiles.

Do whatever makes you feel alive and happy. Do whatever makes you feel like, “Yes, I wanna do it for the rest of my life!” Do whatever gives you a high ( not drugs or alcohol).

I love to dance ( without an audience), run, walk at pace, play with kids, laugh, and smile. Sometimes, I want to fly with the pigeons; they look so happy when they fly. I simply want to imbibe the green of nature into my mind. It makes me happy.

And happiness doesn’t come with an expiry date. I read it somewhere.

Age doesn’t define when you should start or stop enjoying life. It is a lifelong process. Happiness is just the same for a kid as it is for an older person. It takes just simple reasons. Isn’t being alive one of them ?
