Sailing through vines…

The #barrelandvine vineyard is situated in the heart of Brittany (56120) and is conveniently only 50 minutes from the #golfedemorbihan and 1h30 from the #cotedarmor. There is also the lacguerledan and the lacauducs in Ploermel, meaning, watersports are key and integral to the psyche of #bretons. Indeed, a significant deal of our inspiration for a spiced rhum and pastis 56 comes from the fact that the original #routedurhum (St Malo to Guadeloupe) is within touching distance and that sailing and navigating the globe is embedded in all true Bretons.

Our 21ft yacht aka hathaway (originally named #bonaccord) has just spent a year at the boat yard in Vannes and has now made her way back home to #langonan where she can get ready for the summer season of sailing to and from #belleile. Jayne and I are both avid sailors and particularly enjoy sailing around Greece and Italy. Both serve as inspirations for our vineyard. Perhaps not the retsina of Greece, but certainly the Amarone and Barolo of Italy.

There is a synergy between sailing and viticulture.

1. Batten down the hatches i.e. prepare for all sorts of weather (frost, damp, mildew).
2. Fair winds and following seas — the blessing for a safe and uneventful vintage.
3. Know the ropes — something we are still learning!
4. Plain sailing — nothing goes wrong.

We use sailing terms all the time around our vineyard, we even use our #plastimo compass to find true south. It proves the adage that there is always something to learn in every situation. If anyone wants to visit the #barrelandvine we welcome guests all year round and are always happy to show you our true colours (another nautical saying)
