From Attention to Absence: The Illusion of Modern Love

It wasn’t love, it was effort with an expiry date.

The presence of electronic devices has given a roadmap to the guys to behave in a certain way. Like respecting you, giving you attention, calling you, giving you flowers, and all that, but it is just so performative.

It’s like a roadmap to the heart of a woman. Believe me, we all women crave that, but due to its performative nature, I realized it’s for a certain time. After the so-called boys get our hearts, after making us attached, all the cute things disappear.

I mean, the guy who used to be so free all the time and used to say, “I am just calling because it has been like half an hour, I didn’t hear your voice,” is just so busy. Out of nowhere, he has all the duties to perform, making us feel like a distraction.

I heard somewhere that people discard the thing first that they think is unnecessary, not useful, or maybe just trash that needs to be gone. We get used and thrown out like trash, and we foolishly wait for the same person to get comforted.

How foolish a person can become in love, getting played, and even enjoying being played like that. You cling to the hope of having the same person. You cling to the feeling. You cling to the boy who was making an effort initially. You cling persistently until you get your heart torn to pieces again and again.

The same girl who used to say she would introduce the boy fully to the world once she fell in love. One used to shout to fall in love, falls in love, and falls out of life and gets trapped in a well where everything falls apart, and she is now just collecting her heart pieces and wants that same person, but he is gone.

It was the act he was performing to get you. He gets you, and his thrill is gone now. You are not as important now as you used to be.

Is it too much to demand that love be pure and not be played? Not everyone is like that, but why many?

When did love become nothing more than attraction?

Why does everyone have abandonment issues?

Why does everyone have trauma?

Why is there so much pressure to fall in love?

Why is everything so messy?

Why is there so much fear in love?

Still, we want love.
