Do Cleansing Trends Really Exist?

Do Cleansing Trends Really Exist?
At first, the idea sounds strange.
Fashion has trends.
Food has trends.
Coffee has trends.
But cleansing?
How can washing your face have trends?
The surprising answer is: it absolutely does.
And the trends are often more dramatic than people realize.
Two decades ago, the focus was simple.
Remove oil.
Remove impurities.
Deep cleanse everything.
The stronger the cleansing felt, the better.
Then the conversation changed.
Suddenly the industry began talking about skin barriers, low-pH formulas, and over-cleansing.
The old heroes became the new villains.
What’s fascinating is that the market often moves like a pendulum.
When cleansing becomes too aggressive, gentleness becomes trendy.
When gentleness dominates for too long, consumers start asking for cleansing performance again.
The cycle repeats.
Again and again.
Perhaps cleansing trends aren’t really about innovation.
Perhaps they’re reactions.
Corrections.
Attempts to solve the problems created by the previous trend.
And that’s what makes the category so interesting.
The language changes.
The marketing changes.
The ingredients change.
But the consumer’s question rarely changes.
“Does it clean well?”
“And can I comfortably use it every day?”
In the next article, I’ll look at one ingredient that has survived nearly every cleansing trend imaginable:
Tea Tree.
Because while trends come and go, some ingredients somehow remain.
