وَلَمَّا جَاءَهُمْ كِتَابٌ مِّنْ عِندِ اللَّهِ مُصَدِّقٌ لِّمَا مَعَهُمْ وَكَانُوا مِن قَبْلُ يَسْتَفْتِحُونَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا فَلَمَّا جَاءَهُم مَّا عَرَفُوا كَفَرُوا بِهِ ۚ فَلَعْنَةُ اللَّهِ عَلَى الْكَافِرِينَ

Wa lammaa jaaaahum Kitaabum minindil laahi musaddiqul limaa maahum wa kaanoo min qablu yastaftihoonaalal lazeena kafaroo falammaa jaaaahum maaarafoo kafaroo bih; fala natul laahialal kaafireen.

When a Book came to them from God which confirms what is with them (the fact of truthfulness of the Prophet Muhammad in their Scripture), and, despite the fact that they had been praying for victory over the disbelievers (by the help of the truthful Prophet), they refuse to accept this book, even though they know it (to be the Truth). May God condemn those who hide the Truth!

اور جب ان کے پاس اللہ کی طرف سے وہ کتاب آئی جو ان کے پاس والى كتاب (توراة) کی تصدیق کرتی ہے باوجودیکہ اس کے آنے سے پہلے خود یہ لوگ کافروں کے خلاف اس کے ذریعہ سے فتح و ظفر طلب کیا کرتے تھے۔ مگر جب وہ (کتاب) ان کے پاس آگئی جسے وہ پہچانتے تھے تو اس کا انکار کر دیا۔ پس کافروں (منکروں) پر اللہ کی لعنت ہو۔

و هنگامی که از طرف خداوند، کتابی برای آنها آمد که موافق نشانه‌هایی بود که با خود داشتند، و پیش از این، به خود نوید پیروزی بر کافران می‌دادند (که با کمک آن، بر دشمنان پیروز گردند.) با این همه، هنگامی که این کتاب، و پیامبری را که از قبل شناخته بودند نزد آنها آمد، به او کافر شدند؛ لعنت خدا بر کافران باد!

और जब इनके पास ख़ु़दा की तरफ से किताब आयी है जो इनकी तौरेत वगै़रह की तसदीक़ भी करने वाली है और इसके पहले वह दुश्मनों के मुक़ाबले में इसी के ज़रिये तलबे फ़तह भी करते थे लेकिन इसके आते ही मुन्किर हो गये हालांकि इसे पहचानते भी थे तो अब काफ़िरों पर ख़ु़दा की लानत है

Da det så kom en bok fra Gud til dem, som stadfestet det de allerede har – og før hadde de bedt om fremgang overfor de vantro; når det nå fra dette hold kom til dem noe de kjenner, så ville de ikke tro på det. Guds forbannelse hviler over de vantro!

Pooya Ali Commentary:

In Islam empty declaration of faith carries no weight. Those who believe must translate their intentions and love of truth into correct actions. People who do so shall dwell in the eternal land of bliss and fulfilment.

As has been explained in the commentary of verse 40 of this surah, and further elaborated in verses 75 to 79, the Jews should have known and accepted that the Holy Prophet was the promised prophet of Allah and he was preaching the truth, since his message was similar in form and language to that which they already had. But the Jews, had more of arrogance and pride in them than faith, and so belied him, thus earning Allah's curse.
