📌 Task: Register 800+ Employee Accounts on Active Directory

🚀 Overview: I recently tackled my first major task: registering data for over 800 employees on Active Directory, alongside a colleague. We were given a deadline of “end of the month”.

ℹ️ Insight (Idea): In IT, there’s no room for repetition — if a task follows the same fixed steps, it’s an opportunity to automate. That became my guiding principle: “Work Smart, Not Hard.”

🛠️ Implementation

• Tool Selection I researched extensively and discovered the excellent SolarWinds User Import Tool — a game-changer for bulk account provisioning.
• Obstacle: Language Barrier Our data was in Arabic. To preserve the “work smart” mindset, we used Google Sheets’ built‑in Translate function to convert names and entries into English. Despite powerful tools, the human touch ensures the highest quality and accuracy.
• Data Cleanup We came across funny anomalies — usernames like “on”, “peace”, “congrats” instead of proper names like Ali, Islam, Mabrouk. We corrected every row carefully, then saved the cleaned sheet as a CSV file, the required format for import.

🧩 Using SolarWinds User Import Tool

1. Import the CSV file

Upload the cleaned employee data file you prepared in Google Sheets and saved as CSV.

2. Choose the account creation type

Select one of the following options:

• Create Active Directory (AD) Account only
• Create AD Account and Exchange Mailbox

3. Enter your domain credentials

• Provide the Domain Controller IP
• Enter the admin credentials

⚠️ If login fails, try using the full format: Username@domain.local

4. Map the fields

Match each column in your CSV (like First Name, Last Name, Department) to the tool’s input fields.

5. Preview and confirm

• Review all user accounts before creation.
• The tool shows a warning for existing users to avoid duplication.
• Once confirmed, it creates all users in just a few seconds.
