Android Applications are dominating the world. Also users has millions of option to choose from before downloading a single application from Play Store. Hence the project team has to build the app in such a way that user find it more useful than other similar app. Well this is not the only challenge that a developer or a project team faces. There are many other challenges in android development that the developer has to address in making an application that’s successful.

Some of the Common challenges than an developer/team faces while developing android application are:

1. Multiple OS

There are many software versions out in the market one better than other but not every single android user will be having the latest one on his/her device. So as a developer we need to develop an application that will be supportive for maximum devices and multiple OS, so that maximum people will have access to the application.

2. Need Backwards Compatibility

Google release new versions every year, but not everybody could afford to change or updates their phone on each new release. Being a team, we need to consider these issues and build an app which is compatible with not just latest but also support the previous android version since majority of the people are not having the latest android versions and this will prevent high traffic getting attract to our application.

3. Performance and offline capability

Like software updates & differences, hardware differences are also there. While developing an app there’s need to consider the app hardware requirement and what type of device an average user is having in the target market. Moreover, in today’s world Internet is everywhere & everything, but there are still significance amount of people who are not having proper or no internet connection. So as a developer we need to consider the features and the requirement of our application very carefully to make sure that maximum people can take benefit of the developed application.

4. Competing against various similar app already in the market.

Well, android development is not new now; multiple android applications are launch each-day each-hours. And a developer also put several hours’ even days to develop a single activity and month & years for whole applications, so there’s need to make proper planning for marketing our product so that the efforts are recognized and we get a good ROI. Even, most of the android app is available for free downloads and so developer has to explore and find new ways to make his app stand out in the crowd.

5. Effective UI/UX Designing for all kind of devices & users

First & Foremost, we must understand that the application is not build for just one user (single user), but for many users which are located at different areas, having different devices and even different purpose behind installing an application that a developer have not think off. So a project team can’t guarantee/known that for what purpose an end-user might use the application for. It could be completely different from person to person. And so the designer has to design the interface such that and user irrespective of his background should find this application useful and meaningful to achieve his/her outcome.

6. Programming language

At present (2022), android studio provide two programming language official option to choose from for developing the application (Java & Kotlin) While “Kolin” is a modern programming language and provide better feature to simplify app development and code maintenance. Java is more commonly used and large number of existing android app and framework support java to its fullest and so it is a challenge for developer which language to use for developing the application.

7. Fixing new bugs and errors on an consistent basis

The more successful and popular an application become the more the changes of its getting targeted by hackers or become vulnerable to security attacks, Creating a worry both for application and users. Not just this, there are OS & hardware updates for which the application might not be supportive Hence the team has to aware of such issue and apply robust security feature and encryption mechanism to protect the app and user data. And this is an ongoing process, it is often difficult to make the application and user data secure by overcoming emerging android security flaws.

To conclude, a project team has to address many challenges while developing an android application to make it a successful launch. However the challenges may differ from application to application. There are certain rules and steps need to be implemented by project team for developing the app. Creating an application development strategy to identify in advance and overcome challenges.
