Legendary of Lanna

Background Info (Encyclopaedia Metallum: The Metal Archives): Country of origin: Thailand Location: Bangkok Status: Split-up Formed in: 2017 Genre: Atmospheric Folk/Black Metal Themes:Darkness, Depression, Nature, Ghost stories Last label: Kassalongkham Productions Years active:2017–2021

These two musical projects are among the very notable and fascinating entries in the list. They might as well be counted as one, as they have a single proponent — making them currently the sole representative of peninsular Southeast asia, one of two single representatives of a specific continent or sub-region (the other being **Arka’n Asrafokor** from Africa as of the moment).

The two are similar in that they are both black metal outfits tinged with northern Thai folk influences. The most notable folk characteristic of both projects is the recurring use of what sounds like a phin or traditional lute. Their material is the marriage of extremes — the hellish sonic vortex of black metal seems to have an hypnotic effect due to the instrospective vibes evoked by the folk melodies interspersed within. Nonetheless, Leftmuenang (now Jantrcaoskha) has a rawer sound while Legendary of Lanna tends to be more atmospheric.
