Welcome to a new tradition at Direction.

Starting this week, every Friday, we’ll publish a new creative writing theme designed to inspire writers from all walks of life. Whether you’re an experienced author, an occasional writer, or someone who’s never published before, this is your invitation to create with us.

At Direction, we believe every story deserves a chance to be heard.

If you’re new to writing, don’t worry about making your article perfect. Our editors are happy to help you refine your work before publication. We want Direction to be a place where writers learn, grow, and feel confident sharing their voices.

Theme #1: Let’s Create Something Inspired by a Song

Some songs make us smile.

Some bring back memories.

Some remind us of people we’ve loved, places we’ve been, or dreams we’ve yet to chase.

And sometimes, a single song can spark an entirely new story.

This week, we invite you to listen to a song that speaks to you — and then write whatever it inspires.

It could be:

• A short story
• A poem
• A personal essay
• A fictional scene
• A letter
• Or any creative piece that comes from your heart.

There are no limits. There is no “right” way to respond.

Just listen… and write.

A Quick Note

You’re welcome to mention the song title and the artist who inspired your piece.

However, please do not include song lyrics in your article, as they are protected by copyright.

Instead, tell us about the emotions, memories, or ideas the song inspired. We want to read your story, not the lyrics.

How to Participate

• Write an original piece inspired by a song.
• Follow the publication.
• Submit your draft to Direction before Sunday.
• At the end of your article, include this line: Dear Creative People: Let’s Create Something Inspired by a Song
• Submit your draft by Sunday night. The featured story will be announced on Monday.

Featured Story of the Week

Every Monday, our editorial team will select one outstanding submission to be featured in Direction.

This isn’t just about choosing the “best” story. It’s about celebrating creativity, encouraging new voices, and building a community where writers inspire one another.
