Once Loud, Silent

If you meet me now, you wouldn’t know my name, not the one they used to call in crowded rooms, not the echo that once meant courage, fire, and flame. You’d see a quiet figure learning how to bloom in silence that feels heavier than defeat, a stranger wearing fragments of who I used to be, standing still where once I moved on restless feet.

I remember when life felt like a rising tide, three years ago I wasn’t just surviving, I was alive. I carried voices, led with nothing left to hide, took risks like fear and I would never collide. They looked at me like I was made of certainty, like I knew the map to every storm ahead, like doubt had never dared to visit me.

I fought for things that mattered, loud and unafraid, walked home in darkness, heart still burning bright. Organization halls, the choices that I made, the kind of tired that still felt right. I asked myself, in moments I couldn’t quite explain, if all of this was stripped away someday, would there still be something of me that remains.

Now I know the answer hurts more than I thought — from active, praised, to someone barely seen. From achievements carved to battles never fought, to failing days that blur what once had been. Failed once, then twice, then more than I could count, each loss a whisper:

you are not the same, until I stopped believing I could amount.

From a leader to a name not called at all, from movement to a stillness I can’t escape. An inactive student watching shadows fall, not enrolled, just drifting out of shape. Mornings come too fast, nights linger too long, and somewhere in between, I disappeared, a life once loud now swallowed by the wrong.

It breaks me, in ways I cannot show, how I became someone I used to fear.

How dreams dissolved without a warning glow, how silence grew where there was once a cheer. I miss the version of me that stood so tall, the one who knew where they were meant to go, I wonder if I was ever real at all.

But maybe loss is not the final page, maybe endings whisper where beginnings hide. Maybe this quiet is a different kind of stage, where I rebuild, not run, not have to hide. I may be lost, but I am still here breathing — and even broken paths can still be walked. If you see me, know I’m still becoming.
