  • Radical empathy towards difference is a driver of innovation: We should create spaces in society, universities, and companies where ideas that initially seem absurd can be rigorously tested and debated, rather than immediately silenced or ridiculed.
  • The persistence of conviction: Those who were considered mad often shared one characteristic: an unwavering commitment to what they believed to be true. They were not seeking the approval of their time; they were working for the judgement of history.

The next time you hear an idea that seems absolutely absurd, impossible, or comes from someone who appears “out of their mind,” pause before passing judgement.
