Will AI Take My Job | A Beginner Red Teamer’s Real-Life Insight |

Real cyber journey.

What skills Do I need in the AI age?

What skills Do I need in the AI age?

Hey guys, for some time now, I have been thinking about my work, my progress, and the artificial intelligence that is competing with me, where I repeatedly feel like will AI and Automation take my job? “One of the reasons for this is that AI can do the things I can do now, so will AI replace me in 2–3 years for all the things I will learn in the future?”

This question suddenly stopped me one day.

I am a beginner Red Team learner. I am learning tools, solving rooms, getting badges. Everything was going well ~ but one thing started to make me think_ AI is also doing the same thing. And much faster, much cleaner.

That’s when I realized — this question is not something to avoid. I started looking for answers to thousands of questions about my future, why do I feel this way, what do I need to do, what can AI do or not do, what additional things do I need to learn, Let me share them with you…….

A recent study by the MIT Initiative on the Digital Economy (IDE) found that whether AI automation will take over a job depends on one thing~ expertise. MIT economics professor David Autor made this point very clearly at the FutureTech 2025 Conference: Automation doesn’t kill all jobs. It just changes the value of the skills within the job.

Why Expertise Matters

The study says that for a skill to have market value, three things are needed:

  1. The skill must truly create value (Data science vs. random card tricks)

  2. The skill must not be easy to replace

  3. The skill must be scarce so that not everyone can do it

As an example: Heart surgeons are mentioned. Extremely valuable (save lives) And very scarce (only a few people can do it). So even with AI, the value of their expertise does not decrease.

Will AI and Automation take away my job?

Answer: Not all of it. But it will definitely change the nature of work. Some parts of Red Teaming will be automated. But there are some parts where human thought is still essential.

Which tasks of Red Teaming are at risk of automation?

Basic Recon & Enumeration

For example:

  • Port scanning
  • Subdomain enumeration
  • Directory brute-forcing

These are:

  • Repeatable
  • Rule-based
  • Predictable

“So automation + AI is very powerful here. If you just know how to run recon, you will be replaceable in the future.”

Tool Runner Mentality

Example:

  • Copy exploit from Exploit-DB
  • Run Metasploit module

“Just do something” mindset

Today AI:

  • Suggests exploit
  • Generates payload
  • Explains command

“That is, knowing the tool is good, but not knowing why the tool is working is risky.”

Surface-Level Malware Analysis

Example:

  • Check strings
  • Hash lookup
  • Verdict from VirusTotal

AI is very fast:

  • Classifies malware
  • Gives risk score

“Beginner-level analysis can be easily automated here. Which parts of Red Teaming will be safe. This is the real difference.”

Attack Path Thinking (Real Red Team Skill)

After gaining a foothold, ask questions:

  • Is domain access possible from here?
  • Is identity abuse possible?
  • What is the business impact?

“AI can help, but the work of creating the attack chain is still human.”

Creative Exploitation:

Finding logic flaws, Misconfiguration abuse. “This wasn’t supposed to work” type attack. Creativity is the weak point of automation.

Reporting & Storytelling:

  • Convincing the client or team
  • Translating risk into business language
  • AI can create reports, but it can’t convince.

But Reality Check:

  • AI recon summarizing
  • Auto scanners creating full reports
  • Sandbox malware verdict

So the question should be: Am I just running the scanner, or thinking about the scanner?

How am I facing this challenge as a beginner?

I’m still a beginner but I’m making some conscious decisions.

Learning “Why” habit

  • Why did the exploit work?
  • Why did the malware behave this way?

Understand both Red + Blue

  • Attacker mindset
  • Defender detection
  • A good Red Teamer needs to understand Blue.
  • Continue even if it’s not perfect
  • Automation can imitate consistency, curiosity can’t

You might be wondering why I am writing these articles, but listen, here I am trying to write what I have learned in my own words. I think that writing this will make my thoughts clearer, which will motivate me to move on to the next step. I request you if there is any mistake in my education or journey or if I have made any mistake, then please point it out.

How do I want to improve myself

  • Deep into exploitation fundamentals
  • Understand malware behavior well
  • Learn identity and privilege abuse
  • Not just exploit, understand impact
  • “I know I’m a beginner. But I don’t want to stop being a tool runner.”

This is my real journey.

This is my real journey.

Its relationship with cybersecurity

  • This concept is very real in cybersecurity.
  • Basic scanning → will automate
  • Running tools → AI will do better

But:

  • Attack path thinking
  • Creative exploitation
  • Understanding business impact
  • Clear reporting

These are expertise, and these are scarce.

I have already understood that AI will not take away work. AI will only separate — who is a hacker, and who is just a button presser. Although I am still a beginner, I have chosen the path of becoming a thinker.

This is my real journey.

Stay safe, stay well.

Stay safe, stay well.
