Want to make yourself more employable? You need to read this.

We all hurry with everything. We want to get everything done at the same time. We struggle with deadlines.

Not just that, but all of us also hate doing boring things.

As an example, let’s think about a newbie in athletics. He loves sprints or quick exercises. Why? Because this gives him the feel. This gives a rush of adrenaline, makes his job interesting and exciting.

But if you tell him to do endurance training or similar activities, he might not like it much or enjoy it.

We can use this analogy for us, coders or techies, too. Whenever someone tells us to “Comment it properly”, “Document that mistake” or so on, we start questioning why?

Isn’t this human nature?

We refuse to accept anything when it’s imposed or made “mandatory”. We don’t want to do it and feel restricted even if it might not even be affecting us.

After getting an error, any person would say “Why should I document this??” (or so on) “I can just try fixing the mistake and get to the solution in the time I’ll be wasting documenting this error”

For short-term, yes, it’s totally true. Rather than spending time noting things down, just fix the issue. Isn’t that our final goal anyway?

It is totally acceptable to question why we have to do this. But, in the long term, following these practices is what makes a person more employable and efficient.

There’s a reason these standards are used by industry professionals and corporates. The industry doesn’t think of the short term. They look way into the future, they have many employees like you, and they will have many more to come. How will those new employees understand what work you have been doing? Let alone work on it along with you.

There’s a reason behind all these practices and rules, and even if it might sound boring to do. The faster you accept them and start implementing them, the better it is going to be for you when you enter the industry.

Any company would choose someone who has already been practicing things which are practiced in companies over someone who has never even understood the reasons and depth of why these practices are followed.

Like Thomas Edison said “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.”

Don’t give up, make yourself more employable and walk the path to success! Find out the basic guidelines and ethics followed by corporates and include them in your daily tasks.

The earlier you adapt to these practices, the simpler life will become for you once you enter the industry!
